Hi there,

I'm a mechanical engineer graduate and will soon join a 1 year class in software development to specialize in that area.

I have 4 year of matlab experience, 1 year in C++ and OpenGL. I never used Ogre but I'm pretty sure knowing basic OpenGL will be useful.
I've done 1 year of internship in spacecraft autonomous control using MatLab and Simulink.

I'm interested in Procedural Generation, AI and everything related with Physic and mechanic. Btw have you guys talked about the physics engine to use ? AFAIK ogre doesn't have native physics.

I laid my tought but the outlooking of the project there :
http://thrivegame.canadaboard.net/t1092-i-m-interested-in-joining-the-project-here-is-what-i-think-of-it-yet#21315

I would be interested in people taking time to discuss what I suggested. I am interested in joining an active project.

Welcome to the Thrive project RodGame!

Your skills in programmi and game development are impressive! Helping out with Procedural Generation, AI, and Physics would be a great assistance.

What specific areas of Procedural Geberation are you interested in?

For AI, I recommend you stir up some discussion and read through this thread:
http://thrivegame.canadaboard.net/t1011-crash-course-into-ai?highlight=Crash+course

For physics I recommend you post your inital points and questions here. After several posts, you will be able to startvposting in the other subforums (or did they change that rule?). After that, you will be able to start making your own threads.

I will get to replying to your other post now.

I believe you are able to reply to threads anywhere. The limited things are:
-Make new threads (until you have 20 posts)
-Post links (untill you have been registered for one week)

We don't have a plan for physics engine just yet. I believe we could do without one (at least for microbe stage). Any sugestion would be apreciated.

Just to clarify, I don't have a lot of knowledge in Procedural Generation nor AI, but those are things I want to learn alone the way.

I'm insterested in learning thing such as terrain genreation(marching cube...) and city/road spawning generation... just to give idea. I know this won't be implemented in the game before a while.

As stated, I need 1 week before posting link.

I don't think writing a physic engine from scratch is a good idea. Newton or bullet would probably my best bets but I have used none.

Thank you and see ya!

Are those Physic engines?

I wasn't sugesting writing a complete Physics engine from screatch. For microbe stage, the only physic features we need is movement (speed and acceleration) and 2D colisions. that is alredy in place. For multicelular stage, if we want any kind of fancy physic efects. If not, we can simplify it this way:

Anything moving through the ground just sticks to it.
Anything jumping just moves in a parabolic way.
Things are not alowed to go through each other (colisions).

Anything other than that, we would need a physics engine for it.

Yes those are Physic engines. I don't think it is necessary right now as you stated but I was jsut pointing them out. I'm pretty sure the game will need one eventually if you want to play what you surely have in mind.

Until them, we need to get the basic going!

Hi everyone,

Just want to say that I'm back on the track and ready to keep on programming and work on this wonderful project! I just got my internet back 1hour ago after I moved to a new apartment.

I'll make sure to look at what has been done in the last week. Nice to see that a microbe editor is on the way! I took a look at the website and it is really nice too! Keep on the good work everyone, things seems to be moving in the right direction!

Cheers,

Rod
