I'm planning to write an article for the Planet Gen work we've done, as requested, but I'm unsure of whether I should write it as a standalone page, an add-on to the current Planet Editor page, or as a replacement for the current Planet Editor page.

@WilliamsTheJohn: Uploaded.

@RodGame: Good idea. That would help me out a lot. That is a very useful link.

Also, I will take up the challenge of updating the home page. Right now, it says very little. This is the perfect page to engage any visitors, and to give them a taste of all the concepts throughout the game. However, I need some ideas. What should I put on the main page?

Concepts.

Soundtrack page also needs update.
At our team page of our Revolutionary games site, Doggit says:

I became the music team lead almost immediately after the departure of the old team lead, hongchong7,

But on wiki page it's:

The soundtrack for Thrive will be composed by Rpthehotrod and hongchong7, the current sound team leaders for Thrive and Revolutionary Games. There are only mere samples of work on for the main theme as of now, but soon there will be much more available as more music is released and the developers and community behind Thrive make decisions.

And instead of soundtrack list, we should put link to Doggit's chanell.

That really needs update. I want to wiki be place where i can find all info without searching over threads.

Wow, that is old if it still refers to hongchong7. We still have his original main theme for Thrive (it's on the website gallery by the way), so we still need to credit him, but at the moment Doggit's doing most of the work, while I compose the odd theme from time to time. If you are intending to update the wiki with artist credits, you might also want to look through the videos on Doggit's channel, as some were originally composed by other people too.

@ExtraSolar: There are currently no pages on the Procedural Planet Generator. You could make it for that.

@WilliamsTheJohn: A more elaborate response would be appreciated. Obviously concepts would be a part of it, could you be more specific?

I'll get around to fixing that, but that is less significant in the scope of our updates to the wiki at the moment.

I've done up the page for the Procedural Planet Generation system we've been polishing in this thread. It includes moon generation, which wasn't covered in the original rough draft, as well as breaks up the generation process into discrete phases. Variables are also all defined, and ones that can be edited by the player through whatever planet editors we'll have are marked off in a separate list. Finally, Habitability Checks are listed separately and given more detail.

Warning: Wall o' Text
Spoiler:

Things to add at a later date include Star Presets and hard equations once I noodle them out, perhaps with the former on a separate page?

Great work ExtraSolar. In case you guys want to check out the new additions to the wiki, here's the link. I'll be taking a shot at finishing the Industrial Stage page by tomorrow.

EDIT: Nevermind, I finished it tonight. It's now up on the wiki too. By the way, for submissions on Gameplay Stage entries, make sure they follow this format, characterized by a brief summary, a Table of Contents, Overview, Transition, and Development.

Really good idea. I think you're the right person to do it. So what would I see on the main page ?

Main page will be a challenge, as you said. Thrive is aimed to be a really complex game with different gameplay.

Main page need to describe all "major concept" without entering in detail about them. Most importantly, it need to link them together. Also, it needs to be really, really accessible to the newcomer/average user. Someone who just stumble on the wiki need to understand the scope and the link between all concepts.

A good way to do it, would be to look at the main page of the forum and try to translate it in a text.

There are 3 major concepts that link the rest together :

o Gameplay
o Mode
o Editor

First, write a really small paragraph stating that we are an open-source project currently in development looking for interested people to get involved(with a link to a get involved wiki page). Not much more than that, just so the user know what kind of game he's looking at.

Second, make a paragraph that explain how everything are linked together. e.g : You start as a single cell. As you evolve(linked to auto-evo/evolution discussions..), you goes trough different gameplay stages. I'd see a list of all gameplay modes. A plain list so user can click on what he want or just see the list and continue reading. Afterward, talk about the different modes of playing the game that will be available and state that some will be unlocked along the way. List the different modes. Finally, talk about the different editors available to the user. List again.

Now, try to fit as much side-concept into this simple description as possible. Function Part should be at least linked in the thread as it give an idea of the game and is advanced enough.

I'm not quite sur if it's a good idea to make 3 list dividing the text like I presented. However, I think having 3 list for those things would be really beneficial. List talk for themselve and are simple for the user who doesn't want to read a wall of text.

Finally, I'll say it again, try to keep it as small as possible. Not in a sense of "don't make more than 30 lines". But don't put too much superfluous text/concept in it. We want the user to discover the basic concept of the game, and wander trough the wiki to understand the rest himself.

That's how I'd see it. I think this page will need to be iterated as wiki goes on. When you're down with the main page, I'll try to give you feedback.

Good luck!

Nice! I love structure! If all Gameplay Stage have the same structure, it'll be pleasant to read them one by one, you know what information you'll find. This should be in the OP instead of a small edit on the 3rd page that will be forever forgotten when we'll hit 4th page in a couple of post.

Keep on guys, a lot of progress has been done

Now that's more like it. Thanks, that was very helpful!

I'll take into account everything you said, and I will work on it after posting this.

I'll also make sure to update a link to the format on to the OP. I also want to say that I picked up on a tactic for wiki revision that was done by the older Thrivers. I'm going to browse through the wiki pages, and attach the tag "Stub" to any that are short or lacking. That way, when you guys go to the wiki to see what needs updating, just go to Tags toolbar on the side and click "Stub". It will give you a list of all pages tagged with it. I'll be sure to add this info also to the OP.

I hope to see more submissions for the wiki soon. Things have already gone so well.

So, I will be updating some more entries on the wiki soon enough. Anyone else up for helping out with the wiki? Like I said, there are a lot of pages tagged with stub.

I'm going to be doing a lot of outreach work, but I might take a crack at some loose pages.

I've got some Microbe Stage page updates coming soon, so if you want to direct me to any info about that I'd be glad. I was mainly going to pull from the final draft thread though.

Well, probably the page on Thrive's music to start, but after that I'll help with anything you need.

EDIT: In preparation for updating the soundtrack page of the Wiki, I've tracked down every theme composed for Thrive (at least I think it's every theme) so far (warning - wall of text):

Spoiler:

Tell me if I've missed any.

Here's a revised version of the soundtrack page, which includes up to date information. On the page itself, you may want to link words such as 'God Tools' to pages. Tell me if you need any changes or whetehr I should add anything else. Warning - an even bigger wall of text than last time.

@Oliveriver: Great! Thanks for submitting that. I'll add it to the wiki.

I adedd complete relase date of music bundle, and added words unnoficial to unofficial songs.
Nothing important, i wanted to make that so new fans wont be confused beacuse Orbital made ,,Robotic dominance'', but Doggit arleady made official ,,Robot revolt''.

Anyone able to get some concept pages underway? There is a lot left for the pre-sapience stages of the game.
