So do we have any idea as of yet the minimum specs we would need to run Thrive on our PC? I wont be surprised if this isn't really conceivable yet but perhaps this issue should be discussed...

Or more or less will settings be malleable enough to account for lower range PCs whilst still giving higher end PCs a nice looking game?

I would imagine that to get any kind of good-looking graphics out of this game will require a fairly sophisticated graphics card.

While we're at it, how about Macs? Will Thrive run on a Mac computer, and if so, how?

If all components we will use (Ogre and stuff) will be crossplatform, then it should run natively.

It will work on macs, last I heard. I have a mac, so I hope it will be possible.

Anyway, even if Thrive needs very powerful computers to run on, by the time we finish making it they will be fairly normal anyway.
(Spore only just worked on my pc when I got it (EDIT: I mean when I got Spore ), and nowadays that would probably mean I had a old computer)
(That computer broke, now I have a mac, incase you're wondering)
(I don't think there is a link between spore and the crash... Unless they're going evil with Spore!)

I'm not sure if it will run on Mac, but definitely PC and linux. We're going to try to make it run as efficiently as possible to get it down to the lowest possible requirements. that being said, it will be adjustable to run much, much better if it can on your machine.

As long as it doesn't require 64Ghz 16-core CPUs and 32GB RAM, it should be playable in the very near future without lag.

if you look at spore if you have a oldish pc (or mac) it tunes down the graphics

Spore uses nVidia technology that users of ATI and Intel cards don`t get the share of because theyr cards can`t run those nVidia specific features. Thats why.

I would imagine the requirements to be fairly high on the RAM and CPU side, a medium GPU should do.

lol I hope Intel Core 2 Processors, 2.5GB of ram (would be at 4GB if I could get that blast back of the computer open so i can install a 2GB module in the slot under my labtop's keyboard, two screws' groves are worn out. ...who's bright idea I wonder that placement was), and a Intel Mobile Graphics card will be good enough.
