PostDevblog #12: Big Explosions, New Blood, and Beautiful Prototypes

Remember when I told you guys about our traffic flow? After that, I alluded to a record high, a weird spike in traffic we got one day that I couldn't explain. Well, we've hit another spike, and I can explain this one: reddit.
Spoiler:
I'll give you a moment to take that in.

Some kind, anonymous soul on Reddit unintentionally gave us the biggest traffic boom in our history, a boom that sent us more than half of the total 64,591 people that have visited our site in the last year and a half, and included a bunch of new members who I'm extremely happy to have on the team (you know who you are!). I'm extremely happy about this recognition. We'll have to try that again sometime.

For those of you who haven't been on the forums in a while, there's other important news. We now have a few official releases out, along with prototypes focusing on the chemical and environmental aspects of the microbe stage. With any luck, we'll have a microbe editor prototype up soon, and the current prototypes will continue to evolve so we have a good conceptual basis on which to create the actual microbe stage.

Since this boom, we've been reinvigorated, and I want to keep this excitement going as long as possible. I haven't felt so good about this game in years. That's why we now have more and more technical work going on. Oliveriver is working on our long-defunct official website, and several members are creating organizational diagrams for planet generation, organelles, and multicellular evolution. As always, there's work on the tech editor and society stages, headed by NicktheNick, who at this point has become my second-in command.

Finally, I've asked Doggit to compile all of his (and oliveriver's) themes into one package. We should have an initial "Music of Thrive" package up for download soon, which I'm sure our fans will go crazy for. I'm also considering posting our prototypes on ModDB, which shoud spike traffic again, and perhaps pick up some more great contributors.

As always, keep up the great work guys.

Devblog #12: Big Explosions, New Blood, and Beautiful Prototypes :: Comments

When I logged on March 18 and saw several hundred people online, I actually thought we were invaded by spambots. It was a very welcome surprise when I found out otherwise.

I an very glad activity has picked up on the forums. This self sustaining work is exactly what I have been striving to contribute to my entire time here. I would fully support those releases to the fans that you suggested, with the music and the prototypes. We are much better prepared for the next surge in activity, with the GET INVOLVED thread, and Oliveriver's work on the website. I would wait until Oliver is done before posting it.

I can now enjoy my last two days of vacation in peace, and with full confidence in Thrive.

Its an honour working with you guys.
And this is nothing yet ;).
Wow, I've been mentioned on the Devblog . . . Sorry, give me a moment to take it in . . .

Okay, now that's over, I am truly honoured to be working on this team with so many brilliant people. I hope the website will be up and running soon, although at the moment I can't promise anything as I need to work out whether I can edit the current website to such an extent.

When I first discovered this game, I looked on the ModDB site to find that there hadn't been a post for months. The wiki, too, and even the forum to an extent, were almost deserted. But in the last few months it seems everything's turning around, and I have absolutely no doubt that Thrive will be completed before the end of the year. I think we should all thank NickTheNick for his determination to get Thrive going again.

And may Thrive, well . . . thrive. I suppose it's now an adequate description.
My prototype has been mentioned
--
Ill take this opportunity to tell you how proud I am to have joined and to have been actually be helpful to the team.

Take a little time and read this (and the comments).

Completely fake. EA would have overhyped this to the point of explosion if they were actually making a sequel. I would kill for a sequel, though.
I saw this a while ago. A couple of pages in the original poster owns up and admits it's all faked.
