SPACE RESHERSH FOR BETTER GENERATION MODEL

Tarpy remind me something...
In the Galaxy that will be generated, the star systems should have a great diversity, most with unique detail.

Space generation of solar systems doesn't seems to be in everyone minds (except developpers). I made a resherch that can be worth reading.
As I can't post my sources, I will do this when the 7 days delay will be over for me.

Ok, lets be serious.
For a more real domaine I know, space, maybe the generator of solar systems should take in consideration some points:
-The position of the solar system relative to the center (because as both Science and Spore illustrated, the radiation are too dangerous and because there are more stars, the game could have more datas to take in consideration instead if your homeworld is in a less populate area of the solar system.
There is the basic info a our galaxy (the best model we actually have)
The link about this will be post later.
And there is the theory about Habitable zone in the galaxy (not in the radiation of a galaxy's core, but also not at the end of the arms where newborn stars are less common.)
The link about this will be post later.

For the homeworld of the specie's player, the solar system could be more interresting if it could have different star type (still adapted to live long enough to let the live come (but we don't want that) and just hot enough to make the sky shiny!)
The home solar system could have more than one star.

The Drake equation could be also use to calcul the number of planet with life, and the number of civilisation from that precedent number.
The link about this will be post later.
But, it would be important to adapt the model to the actual game.

The Drake equation is:

N=R* x fp x ne x fe x fi x fc x L x fd

N = the number of civilizations in our galaxy with which radio-communication might be possible (i.e. which are on our current past light cone);
and
R* = the average rate of star formation in our galaxy
fp = the fraction of those stars that have planets
ne = the average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets
fl = the fraction of planets that could support life that actually develop life at some point
fi = the fraction of planets with life that actually go on to develop intelligent life (civilizations)
fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space
L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space
(X is the sign of multiplication, not a value)

The L value could be change for something else, as behavior. But, ancients civilisations myths could be interresting.

A same system could have more than one planet with florishing life (not like Spore where it was an uncomplet T1). Also take in consideration the posibility to have giant gas planet with habitable moon.

Also thing about multiple moon planet system if possible during the development.

Now we talk about a sirious business.

Maybe there could have T1 level world with life in the generation.

But, it would be important to adapt the model to the actual game.

The player's home system can have any type of star that lasts long enough for life to develop around it. These are the types of stars that could live long enough for earth-like life to develop(No one is sure how long minimally it takes life to develop, but lets just say the likely candidates to host life):

1. Red dwarfs and yellow dwarfs
2. Orange dwarfs(like our Sun)
3. White main-sequence stars

The other types of stars cannot have planets that support life or the chances are so slim that it might as well be ignored:

1. Brown dwarfs- too cold
2. Blue main-sequence stars- lifespan is too short
3. Stellar remnants- obvious reasons.
4. Giants/supergiants/hypergiants or wolf-rayet stars

As for the Drake equation, I really don't see a point for it. Every planet that can support life will have a chance to actually have it. The dice will decide whether or not a planet can support life, not some galactic-scale formula.

This could be a thread with very useful discussion on galactic generation. Although some may argue that we need to focus on the microbe stage now, I think that stuff like planetary/galactic generation should be discussed right now, since it will become prominent as soon as the multicellular stage.

Still never too soon to introduce concept for the most high stage :alien:

Galactic generation has already been discussed on the PPG thread here (https://thrivegame.canadaboard.net/t124p105-ppg-procedural-planet-generator). However, I do not know to what extent. Also, check the wiki page for PPG.

I think that only solar system generation has been discussed there, not actually the whole galaxies(star distribution, nebulae, clusters)
