Hey guys!

I was browsing through reddit and this project caught my eye as I quite liked the idea behind Spore, not so much the execution, though, which could have been a lot better.
After much trouble I managed to compile and run Thrive. And I was quite (pleasantly) surprised by the polish.

I don't have much time to work on Thrive right now but in about a month I will have lots of spare time and I thought this could be a nice project to work on.

I'm quite experienced in C++ development (and I've heard of Lua before...)
I have also worked with Ogre and CEGUI before (I event contributed to CEGUI by making the latest versions work with Ogre 2.0)

The biggest issue right now for me is using Ogre 1.8 as I am using Ogre 2.0 in my own library and they cannot be installed at the same time.
Would it be possible for Thrive to switch to Ogre 2.0, even though it hasn't been completed yet?
I have used Ogre 2.0 and CEGUI default branch in my game for a while now and they have worked absolutely fine, though there are some (huge) API changes that would require some parts of Thrive to be reworked.

Hey hhyyrylainen, that's the first time anybody's complimented our polish, of all things, so, thanks!

Rumour has it that one of our previous devs has been nosing around an upgrade of some sort to the engine he left us with, meaning a major rework to the Ogre interfacing code may be in the works soon, so you've come at a great time!

Switching is probably possible, but we'll have to go over all the big API changes to figure out just how much work it is. I've never looked into Ogre 2.0, so you're perfectly positioned to help us figure all this stuff out.

I'm currently rebasing a big PR, but once that's done I'll start looking into Ogre 2.0. Until then, skim through what we bind here, and post here, stream-of-consciousness style, what you see that will need to change, whether we can simplify the engine thanks to the new API, what will get harder, etc.

Welcome!

Switching to ogre 2.0 would fix this issue: https://github.com/Revolutionary-Games/Thrive/issues/233
and as you can read we considered upgrading ogre because of it! So that'd be great indeed!
