Rumour has it that one of our previous devs has been nosing around an upgrade of some sort to the engine he left us with, meaning a major rework to the Ogre interfacing code may be in the works soon, so you've come at a great time!
Switching is probably possible, but we'll have to go over all the big API changes to figure out just how much work it is. I've never looked into Ogre 2.0, so you're perfectly positioned to help us figure all this stuff out.
I'm currently rebasing a big PR, but once that's done I'll start looking into Ogre 2.0. Until then, skim through what we bind here, and post here, stream-of-consciousness style, what you see that will need to change, whether we can simplify the engine thanks to the new API, what will get harder, etc.
