PostSubject: Achievement Questions   Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:47 am

Can I point out I was about to make this in Achievement Brainstorming, but then decided I should start a new thread, because it wasn't brainstorming achievements (And congratulations, Zotobom, your in the OP!). I'd also like to say this first sentence first two sentences were not in it. Well, technically they are now. Oh, and make that four sentences and a smiley.

Heheheh... Looking forward to getting that one.

And are we going to be expecting the player to complete all of the achievements we are making? Probably not. If not, then what exactly is a player going to do with these achievements? Is there going to be a hall of fame? It's generally a good idea, but if this is an open source game, someone could easily use an uber-cheat to get all of them, rendering the entire thing useless, so maybe it's not a good idea for this game.

Or would they appear in our profile page? If so, what else would be in our profile page, because I only just made up the idea?

Just a couple of questions on the subject.

I always imagined there'd just be a little "achievements" button in a menu screen somewhere, showing what achievements the player had completed. They won't do anything; they won't unlock anything; they're purely to let the player know they did something particularly neat that we were hoping someone might do.

Alternately, it could be cool to make a little "Hall of Awards" as an in-game building, or something, that the player could go and look at; it could fill up automatically as they completed Achievements. Seems a bit silly, though.

I don't think profiles are realistic. Unless something's changed in my absence, there likely won't be the infrastructure to support something like the dynamic Spore profiles (which, I gather, you were thinking of when you brought this up).

I actually wasn't thinking about them... Just a general profile page... But come to think of it, it is a similar idea.

But if it isn't a 'dynamic' profile, then you wont have proof a claim is authentic, so you couldn't show off to people.

But showing off is the only real reason for people to do it, we aren't having any real rewards. If they don't even have that...

You can printscreen the achievment window, and if that is not going to be enough, then bad luck. Look at Minecraft and it's "Is it legit or cheated?" question. Unless it's obvious you have cheated, then people will have to trust you.

Yay,the 3rd time im in a OP without creating it!

Anyway.i was thinking about a button in a menu where you can see all your achieved achievements and the ones you still need to. But maybe a little reward would be cool? Like, that there will be added 10 of the resource you are playing with, and if you have multiple,10 to the one you have the least of. Or a special abillity or research. But if you get a achievement, you will see a bar in the top of your screen that says, for example:

Quote :
Congratulations, you achieved ''Cannons of Hell''! You get a (reward)!

If we give enough achievements a reward for it to be worth it, we would have hundreds of them... You'd get a huge advantage in your first game when you get loads of achievements without even trying... No, that would be bad for gameplay. Sorry, but no.

Although, I like your first idea, a pane where you could see al of the achievements, that would save 'prtscr'-ing all of the windows. But maybe a button in the panel as well, that could save the whole list as an image file, with your name at the top and/or bottom? Or maybe a different type of file, but one that is hard to fake, a text file is easy to edit while making it look authentic, for example, so not that.

Encryption might prove to be a good method to stop editing.
