Hey everyone, I forgot how I found out about this project but I'm here to tell you what I have to offer.
I'm working on my math major and I've currently finished calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. I believe math is the language of the universe, and I continuously browse to find new fields of study.
I feel like I will be able to help most with conceptualization for the growth of plants and interactions between creatures. I have a little programming experience in c++ under my belt and with the help of others I'm sure I could also be involved with algorithm development.
I can offer advice and input on evolution from a math standpoint, dynamic systems with relative complexity can be modeled with differential equations, and as I get more involved I'll be able to find specifics that I can help with.
This game has a ridiculous amount of potential, and I'm excited to see it unfold

Great to have a math expert here- we'll need you. Could you check my light intensity equation? It's meant to model the light intensity of at any point on a planet's surface (at noon) given the tilt, rotation around a star, distance from the star, latitude, and light intensity of the star.

Quote :
This is meant to model the light intensity of a point on a planet's surface (@ noon) given the distance of the planet from it's host star, its tilt, and it's position in orbit. The last few tests I ran on it worked well, but since this is really incredibly essential to the game, I need expert review, especially since it's been over half a year since I took a maths course.
y=-|((t*le)/(π/2))cos((x/2π)+°lat)|f
where
y=final light intensity
le=light intensity at the equator
x=it's position around the star (radians)
t=tilt of the planet(in degrees)
°lat=latitude of the point

f=max light intensity at that latitude, given by

f=°lat-t where if f is [ <or=0 = le] [ >0 = cos(°lat-t)]

If this works I'll continue refining it so that we can get temperature from it. You can find le with equations 4 and 5
here.

Welcome aboard Solomar!

I don't think we have many math proficients here, but regardless, it's great to see someone of your talent join our humble project!

I'll start taking a look at it with relationship to the other equations you gave me. For me to properly conceptualize what is happening I'm gonna have to draw a few pictures I'll get back to you asap and let you know if I have found a more general equation or something more efficient.
Wooh already got someone giving me some tasks
Edit
What is n?
