I wanted to download the prototypes, but prior that people have to sign up with RapidShare? That is not nice.

The website Revolutionary Games sends me to moddb.com for the prototypes, but that leads only to a sign-up form for RapidShare. :-(

Can anyone post here a real download link? Thanks.

I believe Untrustedlife had control of the prototype download, and since he's now left it's probably disappeared and redirected to the Rapidshare homepage. I'll try and contact him about it and tell him to get it back up even if he can't help with programming anymore, but if he can't I'll remove the link from the website.

EDIT: Having just talked with Untrustedlife, he says he no longer has the file as he's using a new desktop. I think the best option would be for someone who already has the prototype to re-upload it somewhere else.

Hmmm, I just checked that prototype. I saw a window with marble background, and many balls in different colors and sizes. But I couldn't interact with any of them. Is that intended?

I myself have never figured out how to control it, but it does simulate evolution for the cells within it nonetheless. Other prototypes can be found on the website.

I just looked at the prototype that Nick made, and I must say, It is doing alright, Though I must ask, are we just watching or can we acctually control the green cell? Which I assume is the main cell, Because It is a nice little concept.

You can control it, but only to a certain degree. You click to move elsewhere, but until you gain flagella, your movements will be pretty much negligible against the current.

for those of you who are not already subscribed to sci-show, here is a video about a big development about mars, but it also has information that suggests that completely peaceful races earlier in the awoken stage may not have the drive to form complex social bonds, at least as fast as we did.
should something like this be implemented or does the current model already have that as a side-effect?

Well, I don't know about the current society model and how it works with alliances, I'll take a look.

It is totally dependent on what the species decides to do and the environment they are in. Whether they form tribes or not is not hard-coded, and will result from their surroundings and their actions.

Rapidshare sucks these days, I mean in order to get a file you have to at least wait until it transfers via import, they don't even show the progress, then of course you have to actually download it...wtf? Any reason the files aren't being hosted at sourceforge I mean this is after all open-source?

I just made my account and read most of what I could (Not much to due to sheer excitment upon this game's discovery!!!!) and I didn't find this so I would like to post it. When you are making an underwater creature, I understand you cannot make fire for your creature but why not use volcanic vents to heat ores from there and cook foods. That way you could make simplistic armors and weapons from volcanic forges. I also just thought for the space stages of the game could we have electro-magnetic propulsion systems as a way to move ships in space, and could use magnets as a way to push vehichles underwater as there is no electricity so it could short circuit so electro-magnetism wouldn't work. Thank you for taking your time to read my message.

It would be far too hot by the volcanic vents for your multicellular creature to survive.

I really don't like being harsh, especially to newcomers, but there are many things you need to understand.

1. There is a thread called IMPORTANT: READ BEFORE POSTING. In it, it says:

It's not just there for decoration, please follow what it says, and don't make a new thread for this topic.

2. This topic has been discussed "MANY times", as untrustedlife said. On the underwater civilizations thread, it has been raised and shot down multiple times. The thread itself has been locked. You should have read about the topic of underwater civilizations before you posted this idea, because you would have seen it was mentioned several times already, and you also would have seen that the underwater civilization thread was locked for a reason (all new users are posting repeats of old ideas).

3. And last, but not least, that is not a possible solution, because (as written by ~scio):

Aha, so there is magma hot enough to melt copper. Which is great if that’s all you’re looking for. But I like to kill things dead. Considering that this is going to take place underwater, the environment immediately around the Komatiite Magma is going to be extremely hot as well, since water is a great heat conductor and has a very high specific heat, hot enough to severely injure or kill any large animal around it. At temperatures of even 100°C, almost every organism known, save some bacteria, is going to die. So even at lower temperatures, it’s extremely dangerous to approach something so hot in water, and that copper isn’t going to be easy to work with.

So, I had a thought. What about making biological turrets with say a wormacle or invertebrate part that is modified with an orifice at the end and it is hooked up to a Bladder to shoot the "ammo?" To facilitate aiming it would have a joint of some sort at the base, obviously.

It would make for an interesting creature, and hunting styles could be made from having these turrets, or creatures that fight over territory. Literally living tanks.

Shooting poison/projectiles doesn't make an organism equivalent to a tank, since I think turret is a misleading term for that.

I'm talking about a separate limb/section of the organism that is specialized for this purpose, that has the ability to be moved separately, that is what I call the turret. Like say it is mounted on the shoulder or even on the back, and is used for shooting a glob of a harmful material produced by the organism.

The tank analogy was just for the sake of an analogy, had an idea of an armored organism using this as its mode of attack/defense.

But the OE does not allow body parts to move independently of one another, so you couldn't have an independently rotatable turret.

Okay, I goofed, I mean independently as in it is its own limb.

Like say the organism has the projection on its back, parallel to its neck and head, and could move in sync with that. Ones mounted with symmetry could be synced with each other.

It is supposed to be treated like any other limb, except its function is a weapon.

That tank discussion also makes me wonder about an harpoon-like weapon xD.
But i know that would be too hard too program.
About your tank, what would be the projectile? Bone may would be the best but i think the process to make it would be longer enough to make enough ammo :/

Well, it really could be anything produced by the organism. My mind went first towards something like a venom, or some kind of acid or other substance that is harmful.

Of course, the image I had was just shooting a big glob of the stuff, so something with a lot of cohesion. Of course this could be used to project a stream of whatever you have it hooked up to as well.

In addition, there is more than bone, like say something similar to a kidney stone that is generated by the body itself, and is launched from this limb. How a piece of bone would make that role I have no idea. The "reloading" process would be slower of course, that's a given.

The range wouldn't have to be immense, it is organic after all. The field of fire I had in mind wasn't very big either, a cone of about 15 degrees from 90 on either side or so.

A harpoon-like weapon might not be out of the picture, it could be made similar to a chameleon's tongue, if it is meant to reel prey in. All it would need is the sharp, hardened point and it would be golden. It could even be a modified tongue.

EDIT: I have found some very cool videos of robots that can transform, would the TE, in any incarnation, have the ability to even come remotely close to these?
