Thrive Typeface Empty
PostSubject: Thrive Typeface   Thrive Typeface EmptySun Feb 27, 2011 9:58 pm

I think we should get to deciding what font(s) we will use in the game. This is important, because fonts really do have a big effect on how the game feels. An overdone font can make us look gimmicky, and make the game's text difficult to read- an overly common font makes us look unoriginal. Now, we can use pretty much any font under a creative commons share a like licence (or anything less strict). If you start looking around on Dafont or something, make sure the author is willing to have their work put into others' projects. However, other than looking for fonts, we can actually make our own font. There are font programs available for free trial, but I suggest we don't use them until we know exactly what our our font should look like.

We will need multiple fonts.

Title font-
doesn't necessarily have to be extremely easy to read- the title font will be used for buttons and such and can be a little dramatic.

Message font-
for instructions, message bubbles, etc. needs to be very easy to read.

Input font-
when a player types something into a box, we could use a different font for the input.

Suggest fonts/font styles here. For reference:
-Our logo uses a heavily modified Arial

-most of my concept work features "CGF Locust resistance" and "cilogie" from Dafont.

Update 3/27/11

Well I think our title font is good right now. As for ingame fonts, maybe they could change as tech changes. I'm no font buff, so I can't really say what exactly wold be perfect.

I also like the title font

I don't what it to change with techs I think people would like it to stay constant throughout the game

Personally, I think the same font used in the logo should be used for everything (it looks all scientifical)

P.S. If were talking about fonts i guess that means were making progress on the game

Ok, thanks for the input. The font in the logo is Arial with heavy modifications.

I really like this font. I think that it should be standard for all menus and opitons, but as for in the game I'm really not sure.

Also long time no see... I think I'm going to stay here for a while....

Looks nice. The only think I fear is that it might be harder to read in smaller sizes, so I'm for using it in titles and generally for every above standard size text.

Titles and such = good. It's bold. It's not overly complicated. It's not standard.
Menus - that might get a little difficult to read once we make it small enough, scio.
(Also I would like to take this opportunity to grumble quietly about the necessity of creating an account on the site in order to dl and test this...)

It does lose a bit of detail when downsized. I'm glad you guys lie it. We can use a standard font for aything below maybe 22pt font.

Then this font will be good. Nice work, Scio.
