Hello! I'm new. Empty
PostSubject: Hello! I'm new.   Hello! I'm new. EmptySun Mar 31, 2013 6:29 pm

My name is Dima. Nice to meet you! (Please refer to me by my nick name (FunnyGames), thank you!)

I'm not sure if I can help with anything, but I like the idea. I really want to see it a great on top 10 freeware games.
I also like the fact that it supports linux.

I saw few welcome topics, and I see I have to write my skills, if any.

Well, I'm a Practical Electronics. (If you know what that means... :P)
I used to make games in Game Maker (GML) in 2006~2011...
In 2007 I started studying (myself) C++, C# with XNA. It was all good, but it was too complicated for me, so I left it in ~2008...
Anyway, I know C++ very well, I like it's programming language, though I don't like all of the massing code just for a little thing.

I also use Photoshop, again, I studied it myself, I'm not a pro. Also, I'm not a pro in C++.

I also tried using 3D programs to create models, I did some, but it's really bad.

Now, about my electronics, my project for final project is a tetris game, based on Arduino, I also did a snake game as a bonus, including some menu. I created all the code myself, and it went pretty well. I finished it on 2 days (for tetris), and 1 day for a snake game with a menu. (I chose this project on purpose as I know that programming is my strong side :))
(Before someone would say that Arduino has a completed classes, I would like to say that the only thing I used from it, is the LCD class, and reading/writing to ports, all other is made by me)

About the games I created in 2006~2008, there were actually simple games, nothing special, the only game that I actually worked a lot on was a tower based game. (turret game). I don't think it's working good, but it works. I create it in Game Maker, if it's necessary I can give you a link to download... This is the latest game I worked on till 2011. (There was another game I started, an improved version of this turret game, but it stalled... =\ also done in Game Maker).

So what about C++/C# games? All I can say that C++ games were console games (I didn't like the way you had to work with graphics), and for C#, I found XNA which actually was easier and better to use for 2D games. But I didn't actually finish and got somewhere with it.

So overall, I know the theory very good, but when it comes to writing I get really bored and tired... (I simply like the simple programming language where you don't need to write a lot of code to draw an image or make a sound, so you could focus on the game itself)

Lastly, in a month ago, I found Qt to be very good programming language, easy to use, and no problems with graphics or sounds.

I believe I have to add, I don't have any experience with 3D programming. None.

Pretty long post lol, I hope I made it alright.

I am actually using GML for the microbe prototype I am developing. (great for prototyping if not much else) (I prefer C++ though)
(mentioned in the most recent devblog and linked there)
Welcome to Thrive Nick, i would love to see how you can help.

You said C++ is boring for you?
You should try to rekindle your interest as this is written in c++.

WE need a microbe editor prototype maybe you can attempt to make one?

Be good to see you around the forums.

That's so awkward... By saying "refer me by my nick" I meant to my username... (FunnyGames)... Sorry for the misunderstanding...

Boring when there's lots of code... I like C++, till it becomes complicated and long... XD

Microbe editor in C++? (Same as Cell stage?)

I used to use Game Maker 7.0 if that's a matter.

Oh, sorry /: FunnyGames (I read it wrong (distracted by things)) Yes, we do need a microbe editor prototype (to see how we may implement it in C++ (It doesn't have to be in C++, but no matter what it is in, you should also share your source code.)) you can also contribute by giving ideas, artwork. Or just by helping to spread the word.

We love to have new members.

Welcome to Thrive FunnyGames!

Your skills in game development will be very useful. I recommend you check out the GET INVOLVED thread for finding threads to contribute to.

If you could start work on a Microbe Editor prototype, that would be spectacular! Although, any prototype is welcome, its just that the microbe editor is one of the last big pieces of the puzzle for the first stage.

You should check out whats been going on with the code recently, and contact people like RodGame, Nimbal, Mike (untrustedlife), Seregon, and Daniferrito.

Modelling has been quite dormant for a while, but I plan to bring about a revival in a couple days time. It would be awesome if you could help spearhead this. If so send me a PM, or check out the Art section of the GET INVOLVED thread.

If despite this you dont know where to contribute, you can PM me for help.

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm working on the Cell editor right now... I'm trying to do it with 2D graphics.

It really requires a lot of math... And I have no idea how to convert it to 3D... =\

Anyway, if I'll see that I can help somehow, then I will post in the GET INVOLVED thread.

By the way, is there any idea already of how creating the cell editor? If there are, I want to look at them. (I didn't find myself)

Well, the complete microbe stage will be 2d, so there is no problem there. (The functional part will be 2d, all graphics will be 3d.

About a thread of a concept, there should be a whole section of it. It has been spoken about in the "microbe prototype under unity" thread as well.

Oh, and welcome.

Thanks for the welcome!

I thought about it a bit, and I think I can join, however, I can't promise I will have much time, meanwhile I have a break, so I have time to work on the game.

Anyway, I really hope no one else working on the editor, because I don't want to waste time, meanwhile everything goes ok. And I hope to create it the way it should work.
