Hey everyone, I'm Jacob Jensen (Crovea)!

Hey everyone!

I'm Jacob Jensen and go by the nickname Crovea for most gaming related stuff. I'm as of writing this 23 years old, living in Denmark and studying to get my masters in Computer Science from the university of Aalborg!

About my life, gaming and programming.
I've been interrested in computers and gaming ever since my computer-deprived youth was exposed to it! It wasn't soon after i got a computer that i found the game Warcraft III and found the very mesmerizing WC3 editor and before long i was programming crazy things in the game (although i had no idea i was programming due to the semi-visual programming gui that i was directly exposed to) and as soon as i found out what i was actually doing i knew what i wanted to do for a living: Programming. I quickly figured i wanted to best programming related education and started aiming my school choices and activities directly at a Computer Science degree, resulting in gradually more programming exposure until the point im at today!  
Taking a step back to the Warcraft III Editor, the type of projects i spent the most time on (besides my can-do-everything zombie game) was life-simulations. I made increasingly complex maps of creatures following heuristics for surviving multiplying and competing even developing to the point of randomly mutating DNA (altough i never really got much to show from that). This fascination is what instantly made me want to be a part of this project as soon as i saw it in a comment on reddit.com.

So there it is! This project has taken a direction approximately orthogonal to my original visions for a life-simulation so i'll leave the design choices to the designers and help where i'll be the most useful; Programming!

I'll be introducing myself in the programming introduction thread if you want to see my concrete experiences in the field of programming.

My ability to commit!
One thing I think i should share, is my previous commitment problems to projects. I've rarely finished any of my semi-large projects before my attention span has pulled me to more interresting things, and i'm sure this project have had it's share of ambitious motivated people who lost interrest in a short time. My last project that i PROMISED myself to finish (a magic ish card game) is finding long periods of inactivity after i lost interrest in MTG.
The same tale goes for some of my gaming experiences, i've commited myself to: Minecraft servers, Starmade servers&clans, Starcraft II clans, League of legends teams and subsequently went inactive for extended or indefinite periods.

My fear is that i'll lose interrest in this project aswell after my obsession period has passed.
My hope is that with a project so close to my heart in so many ways:
(Programming, GAME programming!!, LIFE SIMULATION GAME PROGRAMMING!!!, my fav p-language: c++, and being open source) will keep my interrested for a long time! Furthermore being open about it, the fact that it's a shared project (progress even if i'm not achieving much and with people to discuss with) i think it might finally be the big thing i see to the finish!


P.S. yes, I'm also one of the guys who raced down to buy Spore when i heard it had been released and what it was about, but was a bit disappointed! Let's make this work!

I'm so glad you're wanting to help Thrive with programming. I see you've already found the programmer introduction thread, so your most of the way towards working on Thrive! If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Welcome to the project Jacob!

I also had my first experience to programming/pseudo-programming in the Warcraft III World Editor, and I as well spent a lot of time with the game and editing my own maps. It's great to hear of your interest in evolution and programming, and it seems like you have already found out where to post and begun looking through the important threads so good for you. Hopefully your interest doesn't wane soon, but alas we all have ups and downs in different interests.

It will be awesome to have you on board!
