Why not use MonoGame it uses XNA and its cross platform and it can be used in VisualStudio.

Monogame runs on C# and this provides less versatility. If I am not mistaking the current version of the game runs on C++ using DirectX, which is the bundle of libraries that Monogame is based on. Also being opensource Monogame isn't that reliable.

Additionally, it looks like enough coding has already been done that it would be a huge pain to transfer it over.

Please do not start new threads for small suggestions. The READ BEFORE POSTING thread clearly advises not to.

From what I know, adopting another engine would restrict us to what that engine has built into it, while although building our own engine is more work, it allows us to enable it to implement the features we have planned, as opposed to having to cut features or have restrictions working with a foreign engine. Also take into the account the reasons The Creator gave.

Garbage collection and JIT compiling are the main problems with using C#.

Regarding limitations, it's still possible we would run into limitations with one of our subsystems, most likely ogre for graphics if anything, I imagine rendering with advanced creature modularity, could become hard depending on how we are going to implement it. Although it will be a lot easier to work around than if we were to limit ourselves to a complete game engine.
