Hello fellow science and gaming nerds my name is Mark Edmunds.

I have been interested in evolution and gaming from a very young age and recently stumbled across this forum. I remember watching the "what spore could have been" videos and though you guys might actually be able to get results. I want to help. Iv played imaginary game as long as I can remember; D&D and a few of my own creations. One game I have played with my friends is one we call Evolution. This game is about your creation of a species of animal or whatnot and its evolution through new accomplishments, failures/successes, and the intake of other species. (aka food turned into genetic "exchange" for abilities and alterations)

I wanted to see if this could be implemented into Thrive. I see that there is a cell stage, where you take up food but as a bacteria, they also take up plasmids. The introduction of plasmids to unique and challenging foes even in stages this early could alter a species entirely. With this said, the "realism" of this in later stages could be through a "genetic vampirism" ability or gene splicing in high-tech era. I have so many ideas and I see so much potential in this game.

Skill wise, I have a few robotics courses and a few biology studies I have already done; as well as a introductory class into Maya and Unreal. I now possess neither softwares but I could reacquire them if needed. I have connections to a lot of fantasy artists and fans that could also throw in suggestions and artwork if that would help.

Thank you so much for your time and for reading my application!
-Mark

Welcome to Thrive Mark!

Modelling would be very helpful, and I believe both Maya and Unreal are compatible with the game's engine, although you should double check that with someone else. . Getting artists to do artwork would be nice, but is not really needed towards producing the game.

Bacteria won't be playable, because the player's sequence of evolution goes from being a eukaryotic cell, to a multicellular colony, to a multicellular organism.

Welcome!

Unreal is it's own engine so there isn't much overlap in assets, but there is certainly exporters from maya models to our graphics engine Ogre3D, altough I don't think anyone currently on the project has experience with anything other than blender.
