| How are we planning to handle sound from tech objects? Prerecorded sounds seem rather insufficient for the wide variety of TOs that might be created. | |

| Prerecorded things are all we can have, unless you want to synthethize them (produces bad sound) or simulate sound waves (impossible without converting your computer to ashes). | |

| We should have a few basic Sounds for the TOs, such as: * Wood rubbing against Wood * Metal rubbing against Metal * Internal Combustion * Rapidly Spinning Object * Spring-type Sound for Catapults and Other Such Mechanisms * Electricity * Flames * Water Flowing | |

| I believe it would be more efficient to assign sounds to FPs rather than guessing what the TOs as a whole might sound like. | |

| That makes sense. Players would therefore have to define sounds for their own FPs, yes? | |

...No. I don't think they need to.

| There might be problems with wood, because different planets will have different organism composition.
For the meaning of FPs, try searching a bit, there is surely a topic covering it.

| There are no noobish question when you're asking for information, only noobish answers.
We could narrow down the wood scraping sounds to just a generic scraping sound, though this might have a few problems.

| We'll need a fair amount of sounds for this.
Wood creaking Metal Creaking The thud of released tension (Bows make a disinctive thud noise, not a twang.) The soft rumble of a future-tech engine The click of a camera The sounds of the organisms operating the TO, or just living in it. The crackle of a wood/coal fire The whir of a gas fire The squeek of a wheel Static
We also need the ability to tag an object as a certain insturment so it can be used for songs.

Intruments in songs allow... well... intruments in songs. If I make a drum in the TE, and tag it as such, than my critters can play any songs tagged only with drums. Animations would be done by the player.

Celebrations, free time, ceremonies, battle-hymns, sea-shanty style work music, the list goes on.

Celebrations and ceremonies would likely be too fiddly to actually display in the game. They'd just be represented through bonuses in religions and stuff like that.

Not really. Example: You'd just need to have say, a hapiness bonus when a victorious army returns home. The creatures would do standard 'happy' animations. Now, you could edit this in the culture editor, by telling the creatures to get off the streets when the soldiers arrive. Now, tell the soldiers to march around the city streets in formation. Save this action under the name, 'Parade' and tell the game to carry it out whenever victorious soldiers return to an SC. All done in culture editor.

Entertainment, as it would give a happiness bonus. So celebrations would be alongside Arts and Sports? That makes sense.

A VERY simple editor for posing and sequncing animations would let us do pretty much whatever we want. Most players won't have the patience to make them, but when exploring other cultures it would up the experience massively, as would art and sport.

Because we don't want to have to weigh the game down for the minimalists.
