PostSubject: a little game i found   a little game i found EmptyThu Jul 22, 2010 5:05 pm

hey guys, forgive me if this seems like spam but i found this game called cellcraft. its very realistic (the cell that is, not the plot going around it). you have certain organs such as the golgi body which you tell to produce lysosomes and other organs you tell to make stuff. its very educational and includes an encyclopedia to give additional info on the organs and vesicles and what not. do you guys think we should design are cell this way? heres the link if you want to test it out.

This game was recently posted somewhere else around here... It's a good find, but there's no need for double postings. Once i find the other thread i'll be locking this one.

EDIT: Turns out it was just mentioned in another thread. This one can stay and talk about what concepts we can learn from this game.

The game is ok, but really not something to model gameplay off of. I believe it's mostly educational.

I got that feeling too. Although considering my younger brother was told in History that he needed to play more Civilization IV, our game could very well end up being a biology class resource.

Games are becoming more and more educational s they become more realistic. If we do it right, Our game could be used to make just about any sort of teaching game.

if we do it right, it could be used everywhere and anywhere. teachers will use it, scientists will use it, kids will use it. we could really make it the ultimate fun learning tool if we work to are full extant.

That will be alot of work though. Fully customisable difficulty tabs, friendly but powerful gui, friendly non-annoying tutorial.. That will probably get our focus later.

The game is quite real I think, our cell stage could look like that (less cartoony of course). It played like a RTS, building units for defense, later even for offense... I'm no expert at cells, nor I'm interested in them, but I would not mind if that game would be the cell stage.

Explain as you go along, a bit like Spore (but not telling you to go to skeletons to get parts, to socialise to get parts, to kill to get parts, to get parts, and to get all the parts. Oh, and to mate to add about ten new parts to your creature in one generation.)
