| My estimates are based around someone who's explored every last nook.., and cranny, of the Galaxy and has a civilization on every planet possible. | |

I think they are a little conservative, then.

Well then they'd probably be done when Thrive 3 comes out.

You could only do that if you LITERALLY have no life at all...

You could only do that if you LITERALLY have no life at all... Activating no life... Running Program EXPLORE.BAT ... User now is exploring everything... Error. Data overload... Computer Restart imminent... Dang huge ammount of planets

| Ill say that "random galaxies" can appear, but i think that people with weak 4GB RAM computers might not want to explore these other galaxies because of a heck of a huge lag. | |

But other galaxies are visible as effects. Did we decide we will or wont have galaxy collisions?

Did we decide we will or wont have galaxy collisions? Im trying, really really hard to imagine how that would work out, first of all, a 6-core woudl struggle hard. And the time it has to span over is just huuge.

Did we decide we will or wont have galaxy collisions? I think galaxy colisions should be integrated since that is how spiral galaxies form.

But that needs simulation of other galaxies. BTW, - Quote :

I have a 512MB and I can still run many modern games. Granted, I will have to upgrade soon, but with 4GB memory there is nothing your computer could not run.

Did we decide we will or wont have galaxy collisions? I think galaxy colisions should be integrated since that is how spiral galaxies form. That might be pretty taxing on our computers.. actually, no. It'd destroy our computers. But that's only if we want to simulate it very realistically. (Yes, I know, I'm not posting often and all my posts now are relatively short. That's because I've become addicted to Minecraft, but it's better than not posting at all.)

| It doesn't need constant simulation of other galaxies, it can just be a random event, once it starts, another galaxy appears and almost immediately begins collision. Maybe before this happens one of the galaxy effects can get bigger, but no actual simulation until impact. | |

| 4GB ram would run stuff, but it would lagg a hell, however a GIF skybox with particle effects that only show whne you get close up will maybe work. | |

.gif is pretty bad image format for games. I'd suggest either. png or .dds . Also, colliding and merging galaxies would be much more taxing on CPU than memory.

| I do suppose that maybe we give this job to the GPU rather than the CPU, causing lot less loss graphic wise and performance wise. | |

| On a side note, is your galaxy definitely a spiral galaxy or could you be randomly assigned an elliptical galaxy or a spiral galaxy or even a sombrero galaxy? | |

These would be part of the questions when you chose to customize your galaxy, rather than randomize the game.

| Seeing as how this thread never got anserwed, I guess thats a green light. What The Uteen said is brilliant - Spoiler:
[quote]Maybe if you go far enough, you start seeing faint green lines making cubes outlines (imagine blackpaper with vertical and horizontal lines, making lots of squares on the paper. The same thing, but 3d with cubes), and as you progress into them, they get brighter. After going through 10 or more cubes of the big cube wall, the green reaches its most distinct. Now the black of space is begining to turn green, too. Your engine stutters, and stops. You float onwards. Eventually the whole of space becomes green, a cyber (computer) green
It shows the true scale of things, imagine if humans became advanced enough to somehow reach the edge of [insert impossible destination here], then slowly the [insert previous impossible destination here] turns to a cybernetc environment. Very existence turns out to be a higher existence's "computer simulation," but the real kicker is that people evolved so much that they can't possible become more advanced (your thrive creatures won't learn to come into the real world(or what we perseve as our real world)).

So basically a sort of Matrix-style "Your world is only a simulation" type thing? Sounds like it would be rather humorous and it makes a convenient way to keep everyone in one galaxy.

| I guess you could say Matirx style, but I meant it to be by no means humorus. For all we know our universe, and everything we percieve to be reality, could be a watered down realty of somthing more. If you take the Sims games (1,2,3), you wouldn't call them/it a universe, but it is. They try to servive, they are (somewhat) autonomious, and they are. To us though, they are simple, a mere computer program, but what if thats us? | |

| And the flying spaghettimonster could have made the entire thing whilst trying to burn beer, but anyways back to reality.
