After following NicktheNick's link in his sig on Civfanatics, I came here and remembered this site I used to lurk a couple years ago. What's been up? Have you released anything yet?

That signature was quite a cheap stunt to get people in on Thrive. I'll be sure to change it to something more suitable.

There is a release out right now, as well as some prototypes, but development is still underway, so don't expect anything yet.

Hmm, the box showing who is online seems to be broken... if both of us are online, why does it only say that one registered user is?

What is the release? I tried downloading one of those links, but it only showed me a weird animation of a giant ball moving towards a creature with an interactive background.

That would be the release. It's only a simple alpha now, with the basic environment set up. We are working as I type this to improve it.

Anyway, welcome to thrive, Mouthwash! I'm WJacobC, but you can call me Jacob. I'm one of the web developers here at Thrive and I'm glad you're back! You may want to talk to ~sciocont about the "Who's Online" box, but it might have just been a temporary glitch.

Yeah, but what is it exactly?

It's the pre-alpha microbe phase, or if you meant the creature, it's the ogre standard character.

Move around and collide with tha' ball.

It's not a game yet. It's to test whether the graphics engine works and the controls do something, nothing more. We are working on something you can actually play, but that will take a while. Think months.

At the current pace, I expect the microbe stage to take several months for a polished state. All of Thrive will take years. You have to keep in mind that development studios usually employ dozens of highly-qualified people full-time. And even they need several years to complete an ambitious project like Thrive. We only have volunteers that can offer their free time to this project, and I have yet to see someone (including me) participating in this project that are somewhat experienced in creating a game of this scale.

Okay, fair enough. Of course, it is a slow process. I just thought that more than months, as in years, was a bit much.

Being small is difficult, but it's all part of the fun. I'm sure you guys will learn a ton coding this, and I've already learned so much writing concepts and the likes.
