Microbiologist/Botanist Empty
PostSubject: Microbiologist/Botanist   Microbiologist/Botanist EmptyMon Dec 16, 2013 2:31 am

I have a B.S. in both microbiology, and botany. As well a minor in chemistry (mostly organic).

I would be happy to answer conceptional questions about any of those topics, especially microbiology.

I saw that the 'organelle processes' task is listed as unfinished. If this is due to the difficulty of constructing a list of organelle functions, processes, and structures I can help. If the issue is more technical, I can only offer my very basic understanding of coding.

As it is, I was wondering about the structure in the microbial phase. The vast majority of microbes do not possess organelles. Will there be a distinction between the bacteria/archean (prokaryotes) and the eukaryotes from the point of view of gameplay?

Good to have you packman!

From a programming perspective i can say that the problem isn't technical and we can easily add any compound producing & consuming organelles. I'm sure some of the designers can chime in on what the assignment is all about

Welcome to Thrive packman!

The Microbial Compounds and Organelles thread contains useful information on our discussions of compounds and organelles for the Microbe Stage, particularly on this page, one of the last posts down, with screenshots of many of the organelle processes.

I believe the list of organelles is for the most part complete:

Kernel - The Nucleus, ER, Golgi, all merged together
Mitochondria - Energy production through respiration
Chloroplasts - Energy production through photosynthesis
Thermoplasts - Energy production through thermosynthesis
Vacuoles - Storage
Flagella - Movement
Cilia - Movement
Agent Vacuole - An organelle that produces agents, a special chemical cells can release to perform specific functions, such as slow other cells or damage cell membranes (decrease their health)

There could possibly be a chemoplast in the future, which uses chemosynthesis for energy production, but that's basically it for now.

Prokaryotic cells will not be playable and will only exist, first as decoration, and then as Bots in the game. This is because they lack the ability to evolve or have any of the major organelles that the eukaryotic cells have. They also lack the ability to advance to later stages.
