Noobish Ideas of Mine Empty
PostSubject: Noobish Ideas of Mine   Noobish Ideas of Mine EmptyTue Jan 24, 2012 3:44 am

I am finally back after quite a while, I had made a few threads when I began, unfortunately when I was quite new and I didn't know what was going on. I now decided to make this thread, some ideas I have to make players in the future, like me, more intrigued and interested. Of course, before I can do this as a sort of "series" or something, I need to get permission from Sciocont, but I will put as much as I can in this thread, thank you for visiting at least.

First of all, I am not good at grammar, my grades are not the highest, and I probably don't know much, but I know some stuff about science, mathematics, I know big words, and I can manage myself in an intellectual conversation...just not too much xD

Second, I draw pretty well if I do say so myself and nine tenths of my class. I'm studying anatomy currently, but only on my free time. My science teacher is of no help, so don't expect me to come up with new ideas every day, such as some of you do...*jealousy*

Finally, I stay up pretty late at night, so some of my threads may be posted like at one in the morning or something like that. I hope I can at least contribute to this amazing game...that I hope will be released soon, after all of this...

The moment you've all been waiting for...The Ideas!!!
Noobish Ideas of Mine:
- Thrive is a game of evolution. I've gotten through that concept. We have auto-evo and how we will program it, everything is running smoothly. The "pre-made" organisms are templates that evolve on their own, including the player him/herself if they do not influence it. All of these concepts I've understood, as well as some other threads I have skimmed over or actually read.

- Thrive will first be implemented onto Linux? is that correct? Then it will be programed to the other computers and stuff...?

(Okay, those above this are just questions and getting over what I know...)

- I don't know if this has been discussed, but gas sacks. A simple concept. And example...a bovine-like creature with tubes protruding from the jaw, used for feeding, the creature has fleshy legs, and, as it was thought of, a large air sack on it's back containing precious gases, the legs are used for propelling forward, able to be pulled back and let the creature glide slightly. This creature is one of my concepts and I haven't read anything about gas sacks or how they will be made, how they will be oval-like, square-like even, I don't know!

- Magic or psychic stuff. No really, here me out, maybe not magic, but a trick of the eye, maybe a sapient, but not advanced culture has found a way to trick prey into thinking they are somewhere, when they are somewhere else, one creature making it appear as if there were many...I don't know, but to me, it sounds cool.

- [I will add more...probably....if I get permission...or something...xP]

- I worked hard on these, but any feedback, good or bad, is accepted, if an idea of mine has been discussed, please, feel free to tell me.

Good ideas.

Thrive wil indeed be on Linux first, from which it can be put onto Windows fairly simply... I think; and onto Mac not quite as easily.

Gas sacks are good, I thought we had discussed them, but apparently not. They should be included.

Magic and psychic stuff... No. Only scientific stuff. However, most of what you described could probably be done through hypnosis and hallucinogenics, which are scientific. Different methods, but same results. Actual 'magic' will be reserved for god tools, with which anything is possible. Not quite magic, more post-science.

And feel free to post your ideas, ideas are welcome here, and I would presume always will be.

I think you mean jovian life, you have the concept a bit wrong (don't worry, they're not commonly discussed on the internet). Jovian life would likely never evolve to be bovine-like. The only place Jovian life could evolove is a gas giant, and would most likely use the power generated by lightning storms as food therefore, probably would have no jaw at all. They definitely would not have eyes looking at how pointless it would be on a gas giant, and would likely bob around in the air aimlessly, with an appearance similar to a jellyfish. Gameplay as jovian life would probably be similar to that of a tree.

We have discussed this a little bit, or at least I did in the concept biome thread where I submitted the Jovian biome, although gas sacks wouldn't be useful just on gas giants. They would work well in water as well, mainly for buoyancy, and releasing gas would cause the creature to sink, while producing it would cause it to rise. For a terran animal, however, gas sacks would not be that useful, unless they mainly move with flight and the planet has a dense atmosphere.

Yeah, we've discussed blimp animals and plants.
As long as you keep posting the ideas specifically on this one thread, I'm all for it. It's just the proliferation of many small threads that get closed immediately that we don't like here.

Jovian biome (no offense) is kind of not scientific. Jovian planets refer to the outer planets in the solar system. eg. Jupiter, Saturn, etc. Jellyfish for water, sure, but that's not really jovian. I realise they wouldn't be useful on gas giants, but thats where they would evolve.

I didn't exactly call my idea Jovian on the biome thread, I split it into upper and lower atmosphere on gas giants, basing it mostly off of Carl Sagan's conceptualization of "floaters". But yes, water wouldn't be Jovian, I was just comparing gas sacks in a Jovian and aquatic environment. Based off what other biomes we have, I doubt Jovian ones will make the cut, at least not we've finished the game and add-ons are being made, but gas sacks can work in other environments.

I suppose, but I think if they're anywhere they SHOULD be on gas giants too.

I never said they shouldn't. I just said life on gas giants probably won't make it for the first release of the game, since we're mainly focusing on terran environments.
