That's the point of MP, to limit what you can do. A further limit on top of that is not necessary.

How about 2 MP to add or delete a hex, but 1 MP to move one?
That sounds good to me - it prevents a player from going too wild with edits but gives them a little more freedom than otherwise.
EDIT: Having just 'tested' that system within the animation, I still stick to this.

If anyone's interested, we can start a pen & paper cell creation thread so we can test editor mechanics like this before they're implemented.

I agree with Nick's system. Also, that sounds like an intriguing idea ~scio. I say we try it out.

Ok. I'll start a thread for testing tomorrow.

This doesn't stop Oliver's situation from happening, it just makes it more difficult to do. I'm leaning towards all hex movement having a cost or limiting the number of swaps possible.
If you're talking about the player just moving the hex, and then moving it again in the same editing session, I think that should be fairly easy to fix (though maybe not from a programming perspective). The editor would just need to "remember" where a hex was upon the start of the editing session.
It would still not stop you from creating a very different microbe within one mutation. You would just have to take the hexes from the bottom and pile them on top.
A -> C -> B B -> A -> C C -> B -> A
I agree that this was one of the biggest problems with Spore. You could just max out everything you wanted, then right before going into tribal stage you just mated one last time, and removed everything, to get a good looking spieces instead. This should not be possible, but each mutation should be within a limited degree of the original.
Maybe leave a circumference of only 1 or 2 hexes outside of the microbe, where you can add/move hexes? Like this:

Wow! Great work, Tritium! :D
By the way, that sounded like a pretty low quality version of my microbe theme. If you want a better quality one send me a private message and we'll find a way for me to send it to you.

This visual style is absolutely perfect. Bravo. The one thing I didn't like was the beams of light coming from the top of the screen in microbe stage.

Oh I adore this art style! It's not realistic yet not cartoonish, and simply gorgeous to look at. Not to mention the wriggling little cell creatures have their own little brand of "Cuteness" to them.
Oh how I wish I could animate things...

I thought it would give the scene some uniqueness and show that it takes place in surface waters, should i change their position intensity or you don't want them at all?

That was brilliant. And I liked the light beams, it made me feel like we were nearing the surface of the pool.

It definitely had the right affect, I just thought it would make more sense to have a wave interference pattern of light shining across the whole thing than beams shining from a single side, since we're focusing on a top-down environment where you're on a substrate. Really, though , the substrate could be positioned in any way, so keep your video however you like ti.

Your video looks great Tritium, perhaps we should post it on the official channel? The only thing I would suggest is that the microbes not be so empty and transparent. Right now they just look like empty liposomes, and our goal is to make the environment look and feel like it's teeming with life. I'm sure you know all that though.
I especially like the throwback to my concept art at the end
