Just note that this devblog is meant to elaborate the point made by the previous devblog.
As you have probably noticed by now, there have been some revisions to the structure of the forum, and primarily, the team. Several developers have discussed and decided to implement these changes, because we feel they are an improvement over what we had before.
What Changed and Why?All new users begin as part of the usergroup "Users", which only allows posting in the Applications subforum (which used to be called the Introductions subforum).
In the applications subforum, users can post a thread where they introduce themselves and apply to join the team. At regular intervals, moderators and admins will look through user applications and accept any users who have sufficient aptitude. Accepting an application means reclassifying the user's account into the "Developer" usergroup, which allows them to create new threads and post replies on any subforum (minus this one, which is saved for team leads and mods).
Now, hold on a sec, if you are upset that an open, community-based project just turned into a VIP club, don't worry, it’s not (entirely). If you are a productive or capable contributor you are going to get in, just like you could have before. The purpose of the applications is not to interfere with that. What it is intended to do is prevent users with little to nothing to contribute from interfering with the work done by the developers.
If you find yourself unable to post, you have likely been moved to the “User” usergroup. Don’t panic, an application in the app subforum can get you back in.
How to Apply?Applications will be a bit more formal than previous introductions. Simply describe what you are able to contribute towards the project, specifically relating to any skills outlined in the READ BEFORE POSTING thread. Remember, ideas are not a skill set. Everyone has ideas.
Of course, tell us about yourself, as well as any past project experiences you might have had, or show some samples of your work. This would include art as an artist or demo as a coder.
If we accept you you will receive a PM informing you such.
If I’m just a fan, where do I go now?Reddit, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Wikia, and the rest of the internet. You can find many places to congregate, ask questions, or just fantasize about the game, but not here. These changes are to bring some focus to the users on the forum towards development. Check out the READ BEFORE POSTING thread for links to all those places.

As a result of the new changes, there is likely going to be less activity on the forums at first. Try to mitigate this by participating in discussions, posting regularly, and contributing where possible.
Also, for all future users there will be a new section added to the READ BEFORE POSTING thread explaining how the new system of applications and usergroups works. The changes are not final, as we have found several issues with people being in the correct usergroups not being able to post, so if you have any suggestions on how to improve the changes, or if you have noticed a mistake with the changes, please post on the Misc thread or PM a mod to let them know. Also, if you don't like this new system, we would also like to know, because we are trying to do what's best for the project.
