What is this place?

As part of our crusade to make these forums more programmer-friendly, we've created this subforum (or technically, merged two old disused subforums into this one); and since it's supposed to be a little special, I thought it deserved an introduction.

So, welcome to the Technical Discussion forum, where we discuss technical things. On the rest of the forum, things will generally be more focused on getting the actual game created, meaning other fun things nerdy coders like to gush about get pushed to the wayside.

Not so here.

TD is a place where you can talk about that cool algorithm for doing some awesome Belgium with thingamajigs, even if it's only tangentially related to something that might appear in Thrive someday. If you're a coder who likes evangelizing about the one true way to simulate plate tectonics, or your boss lets you read awesome papers about crowd simulation all day, or you've written a roguelike, or whatever, we want you to babble here. No actual credentials needed, you just have to be able to hold your ground in a nitty-gritty discussion.

However, if you aren't very technical, don't be surprised when discussions you start here get too technical for you, as that's what this place is about -- but don't be afraid to provide conversation-starters either
