| I know that im new to this but i was wondering why it was decided that this game would be an open source? It seems like it would be hard to get good programmers and such without the promise of money. I think that it would be a good idea to sell the game. For a low price granted, but still sell it. | |

So that many people can be able to access it and, thus, we will gain a large community.. I think. With the game being free in the first place, I think that's one of the reasons we're attracting so many people. A larger crowd means more of a chance of gaining programmers, or at least people who want to contribute their ideas thus speeding up the project. I mean, look at us, we already have 3 programmers. But only 2 have a lot of experience. That's Bashinerox and PaperGrape. We'd probably turn down a large portion of this community by suddenly announcing a change from open source to dozens of dollars. Basically, I think we're too far in to change.

| To me it seems like a lot more people would want to join if they got paid. Also being an open source will mean that we wont have money for actual advertising, such as TV comercials. | |

I don't think we'll need to go so far as television. The internet is large enough. Besides there's plenty of well-known free resources out there to create it, like GIMP, for example (which I'm pretty sure was used to create the forum background image), or such 3-d programs as Blender if you're really desperate to look like the bigger titles in the gaming industry. See, even we've planned to stay low early on and then really show everything when it's close to finished but we've gained so much attention even at this point, it almost contradicts your theory. That's because people like free things. If someone offered you a brand new car for free, no catch, would you take that deal as opposed to the other guy you just visited, who offered you that exact same model for a few thousand dollars?

| We are not selling the game. Half the point of this game is to show the big gaming companies that rip out our throats and sell them back to us piece by piece that an open source, free game worked on by a bunch of amateurs is better than anything they've managed to churn out. Maybe then they'll finally turn back to the idea of making games for the love of it instead of for an insatiable hunger for money. | |

| If we ever have a need for money, we'll ask for donations. We don't need it now, and haven't needed it yet though. | |

and, of course, there would first have to be a decision on whot he money actually goes to. A decision which currently cannot be made. If it looks like money is ever needed for anything, such as funding a standalone website andforum, the mods will discuss it. Feel happy we're not asking for money Topic locked.
