Group Video Chat?

Hey all, I was thinking of maybe finding a time where we could all get together and do some game developer fun time via skype video group chat.

Any takers? I think we can

-Discuss important concepts face to face (via internets)
-Get to know each other
-Put faces behind screen names
-Have a jolly ol' time, being Christmas is near.

Let me know what you think! We can discuss times and stuff later

I would love to do this sometime if I ever get a webcam. I think just communicating face-to face could really help us work together.

OK, I understand people don't have webcams and that's cool. If we could do like a group chat on the chat thing on the portal, or set one up on AIM or whatnot, that would be awesome. Seeing each other would be great if those who have webcams could do so. We'll see what needs to be done. Let everyone know if you have a webcam!

Got a webcam, unfortunetly I'm sitting on a 3g modem now, so its a no no on video, chat should do.

Sorry, no webcam here. As far as I'm aware, anyway.

Those of us without webcams could always use microphones and just do audio.


If this works well we could start a podcast.

Here's who I have with webcams for chat.

Honestly, 3 people in video chat is OK, but I think we can incorporate more people if we all hop on the Mibbit Chat widget in the portal. What do you guys think would be a good time to do it? List your times zones so we'll all hop on at the same time.

I'm in central time, so it's GMT- 5. Look up your GMT via google and we'll see if we can designate a time. The forum is great and all, but I like personal contact. This isn't an obligation or anything, and honestly, I just want to get to know the rest of the team and share some goals in mind.

But with people here from (vaguely) all around the world, finding a time we can all do is going to be tricky...

I doubt this will work, as Uteen pointed out, we are spaced over all timezones (usually I'm in work when most members are on the forum).

I'm +8 but I'm good for any time at all. post a time and I'll be there

We tried to do a podcast a while back (in the days of Evolutions!), but the timezone thing was just too much of a problem.

We succeeded with IM, but only with about 2-3 members.

I think that we should just do IM. Video chat creates an additional problem for those without a camera. Just audio creates yet another barrier for those without a microphone. We need less barriers if we want any decent amount of people.

Meh, no webcam here. Got a mic, though.

However, I honestly have no desire to have to make it to any online meetings or what-not. I'm just not dedicated enough.

I have a webcam on my laptop now, and i also just got a better internet connection. But, i'm happy to just do IM. I'm GMT +10. Like PJ said, i don't like our chances of finding a time.

Meh, there is chat option here in this forum, and it would be the best option, but, I dont think many people know where it is =( (me included)

Look along the top of the forum where it says stuff like home, search, log out, you have 1 new message ( ), and find where it says portal and go to that, then the chat should be there.

Anyway... Videochat might work, but we probably would need to limit it to people with fairly close timezones. Probably trouble for me though, you guys are all nocturnal. Or am I nocturnal?

Your explanation is gold stuff. Though that chat option looks like scam ad... ahha no wander no one clicks it. Dev team should definetly use it more, at least now I am...
