| It now has a new, non-undead thread. Discuss. | |

| Will we even have them? I mean, they might not even evolve on alien planets. | |

That seems highly unlikely.

That seems highly unlikely. Agreed. I remember in the old, zombie-related thread that diseases could be generated with a list of systems it would affect, and how it would effect them (what will the effects be like, what will the organism go through, at what rate would it affect the organism, etc. etc. etc.) I think Rex was the one who posted it. Unfortunately I also think the thread's gone.

| I think for simplicity's sake diseases should be made just a phenomenon on the epidemiological instance. | |

Okay, and in English that means? If you mean Disease be made an Arbitrary Mechanic (ooh, i do love my arbitrary mechanics) then i fully agree with you. And traits have been discussed, somewhere...

for simplicity's sake to keep it simple diseases coughs and sneezes should be made just a phenomenon thing that happens on the epidemiological big cough and sneeze sad instance time. Much simpler for you all. This is the happy one for everyone! Yay! I hope you now get the jist of it. I hope you are all smiley and happy now! Yeah, this has been discussed, but this is probably lower priority. Can we just do the needed stuff for now, but leaving room for this to be added in (officially) in a later version? And an option to turn off diseases, they may get annoying. Not saying they will, but just in case.

If we'll ever implement a more complex difficulty menu (we should, considering the scale, and realism of the game), it will be in.

If you mean Disease be made an Arbitrary Mechanic (ooh, i do love my arbitrary mechanics) then i fully agree with you. And traits have been discussed, somewhere... I mean it should just affect populations as a whole by causing mortalitiy. No specifications like cancer, tuberculosis, etc etc etc. That keeps the mathematics simple and does a good enough job. With this usage diseases can't be turned off because they'll play a vital role on the demographic dynamics of a civilization.

| I vote arbitrary mechanic. They're simple, and allow modders wonderful freedom when making new stuff to put into the game, not only new traits for them but new effects certain traits may have. | |

Fine with me. So what system it affects and how long it affects you and such will be randomly chosen? I agree, although we do need some limits to keep it from going beyong the border of realism. But for now, me being my lazy, undevoted self and all I can't think of any contradictions.

| I've always been in for disease by arbitrary mechanics. | |

| Oh, sorry, I posted this idea on the other thread. This is an idea for viruses. Maybe there can be a list of possible disease attributes, like extreme hunger, blurry vision, hostility, etc. Then, because viruses are light enough to float in air, random patches of air will carry disease with a randomly selected list of attributes. For every second a creature (npc or pc) is in this area, there is a 70% (or so) chance that they will catch this disease. They can pass it on to others in a way specified by the disease (ie. biting, vomiting, etc.), they may also be carried by bugs, thus introducing a use for having them. This idea will present some diversity to the disease factor in the game. And maybe in more technological eras in the game, you can develop germ warfare to attack other nations by somehow releasing viruses into their breathing air. You could maybe use the tech editor to edit your virus (therefore not adding a new editor). Just my idea |

Not bad. We'll probably include some stuff like this eventually.
