| OK. So, it's become clear that I can't be here particularly reliably. Since I'm the main wiki admin, this causes problems for those of you who want to edit the wiki but can't since I need to manually approve every individual user who wants wiki access.
With this in mind, what are your opinions about 1) appointing a few more admins who are around a bit more often so that they can handle this stuff, or even 2) completely opening wiki registration so we don't have to worry about approving anymore?
Oh, one other thing: there's a distant possibility that I'll have a "real" Wikipedia-style MediaWiki install running for you guys in the next few months. Would it be too difficult to migrate what we have now? Do you even want to move over to that sort of system?
Feel free to voice any opinions you have about the wiki.

| Just make every current member of the wiki an admin.
Also, MediaWiki would be great, and we don't have that much text to make migrating a pain. I'm definitely for it.

| All right. The current wiki team shall be made admins (and you'll be able to change stuff with the admin control panel linked in the left toolbar), and I will move ahead with the MediaWiki thing whenever I have some spare time and bandwidth to move a bunch of scripts.
I am hoping that I'll be able to find the time to be around here myself some more in the near future. My real life was kind of interfering with my online life for quite a while, and I definitely didn't have enough time for both Spore and Thrive. Now, it looks like I might be back.
EDIT: All current wiki members are now admins.

| Just been playing with ours, and it's not too bad so far. No harder than Live Journal. But If we're going to migrate, I'll just hold off on pasting the translations until we do, if it's going to be soon. (Plus, I'd like to someday have more than just the first page in spanish and polish...) If you make me an admin, I'll just invite along my translators so they can post their translations when they're done. Because I am that lazy. If we're moving, though, I can have this discussion another time. | |
