Well I am going to come out from lurking and say, Welcome to the the Thrive forums. Here is the link to the thrive wiki. That will tell you most of the concepts we have down. I'll let the more up- to-date people tell you what you can do when they get here.

Scio I think has one, but he is away at band camp. I think there are a couple more but I have no idea who they would be.

Hello there!

I voted to use Unity, but I believe the idea was shot down. The problem is, terrain will need to be dynamically generated with each planet, and we will probably be using our own methods to generate said planet. Thus, the terrain editor in Unity probably isn't the right way to go as of now. If you know about perlin noise, etc., terrain generation Algorithms would be great.

Hello. Very impressive terrains on that website. From browsing it I've noticed that it is a team making them. Is anyone else in the team perhaps interested in this project? I'm not sure about how those terrains will fit in with the current engine being whipped up by Bashinerox, our friendly neighbourhood coder but I'm sure your skills will be useful nonetheless. Sciocont, our sort of leader is away at the minute but... welcome to Thrive!

Welcome!

I think the terrain will be procedural, so ready-made terrain wont be great for general planets, but we will definitely need some backgrounds to the editors, and they should involve some sort of terrain.
Terrain makes good concept art, too. You can never have enough concept art (until you have billions, that's too much).

Terrain makes excellent concept art. Please feel free.
I don't have a skype (the amount of time I'd actually be able to be on is often nill) but feel free to PM me - the worst I can do is point you at someone else. I'm probably the most up-to-date on biomes, the OE, and anything having to do with plants, but I'll have to point you towards someone else if you start getting into civ.
