| Hi Guys!
I'm Carnifex, a 24 year old graduated bioinformatician (B.ASc. degree) currently employed in the web development business. I am from a very small but densely populated country called the Netherlands. Which lies in Europe for the ones who have never heard of it. Living together with my girlfriend (who is also a bioinformatician!) in a nice apartment on the 5th floor (6th for you Americans, oh you!) (can post pictures of our awesome view if requested). I am a gamer(PC gaming)/programmer/modder by heart so I know a lot about different games, styles, gameplay, etc.
I came across this interesting project called Thrive, which sounds like an awesome challenge. I decided to not only register to your forums but also let you know that I am interested in joining your team as a programmer.
My programming/scripting skills (mostly self-taught, with a few years of professional experience) include: C, C++, Java, Python, Perl, PHP, (X)HTML(5), SQL, CSS(3), Javascript/AJAX/JQuery, UnrealScript, NWScript, HeroScript, and a bunch of other scripting languages. Now, I'm not saying I'm some programming god but I do know how to get things done properly if you catch my drift.
Previously I have started my own indie game development company and our aim was to create a huge sandbox MMORPG (think mortal online/darkfall online) using the HeroEngine. Unfortunately, due to financial reasons we had to cancel the whole thing (lol vaporware).
Other than my programming skills I can create websites (read: not really a designer but I can make modern/simple/functional/good looking websites) and I own a VPS in the USA which hosts several websites/webapps/gameservers/etc.
I have many good ideas regarding game development and also have basic(!) understanding of project management and running a business.
Hopefully we can get in contact, perhaps through these forums, email, skype, whatever to discuss some more about Thrive and my possible contributions.

| Two amazing guys in one day, wow!
The Netherlands, never heard of it... Just kidding, but who hasn't heard of it?
Your programming proficiency will be extremely valuable, I can tell you that. You seem like a great addition to the team, so let me be the first to tell you, welcome aboard! Sciocont is the boss around here, in case you didn't know, but he's gone for the next eleven days. In the meantime, we are working on a compound system with Seregon (another one of our programmers) and a societal structure system, with myself. The game itself is being programmed in C++.
Btw, I'm more of a Warhammer Fantasy and LOTR guy myself. I have large armies of the Bretonnians and LOTR.

I've been programming roughly around the same time I learned to write, as my mom worked at IBM she always came home with the newest stuff for us to test. It sounds like you're into web programming as well, it's a nice skill to possess in these times! Don't underestimate your knowledge. - NickTheNick wrote:

Btw, I'm more of a Warhammer Fantasy and LOTR guy myself. I have large armies of the Bretonnians and LOTR. Oh you! Actually, many people haven't heard of the Netherlands especially outside of Europe. It's sad really. I will definitely be talking to you guys about serious business this week. Oh and, it doesn't really matter which type of Warhammer you're into I always liked it because of the great history and story behind each culture, which goes for every Warhammer universe. - PTFace wrote:

How much Dutch would I have to learn to speak to move to the Netherlands? The answer is fairly simple: None. As our country is made up of roughly 25% non-native dutch speaking inhabitants it is not even a necessity to speak Dutch anymore. You'll learn the language eventually but I don't recommend taking classes as the Dutch language is particularly hard to learn (as a reference, english, spanish, japanese, french, german and perhaps others are considered easier to learn than dutch). Most Dutch inhabitants people speak English to some extent anyhow. (source: wikipedia (can't post link..))
