Is there a .mp3 download of Thrive Theme v6 anywhere? I'd like to put it on my mp3 player.
Here you go: [had to remove link]
I've no idea how it got there, and I composed it :| . The download seems legitimate - I downloaded one of Doggit's themes from the site as well and had no ill effects. It seems as if the site has .mp3 files of loads of Youtube videos.
Also, I'm quite honoured you like it so much that you want to put it on your mp3 player.

I've added both this theme and the Declaration of War Sound to the list. Great work. :D

No offense, but I can not find a good song. Not to mention that it looks like a song of a cartridge for Gameboy (8 bit), I can not connect it with a utopian society, but I can think of Buddha.

There is no way to tell how to make a song. The only rules are the use of bases of type ambient for the composition of music for Thrive.

I had to learn myself how to balance different equations that sum up a suitable theme. You have to use ambience, mood, pace, theming, and structure correctly and be able to balance them out in correct portions. My slip-up song got down the structure and mood, but the rest was either lacking or nonexistent. It's partially trial and error, but mostly knowledge in "themed songs" for games and movies and such. Themed songs are my specialty and so I easily adapted to thrive's stylized genre of sound. You on the otherhand, I don't know what you're good at so it's up to you.

I've remade Captain McDerp's Utopian Theme and tried to keep it more ambient and ethereal than before:

There's been a lot of discussion recently outside of the forums about how the Main Theme is going to work. Sone people prefer Hongchong7's original v3, while some prefer my v6. Sooner or later we're going to have to come to a decision on this, so in a second I'll set up a poll in this thread. There will be four choices:
1. The Main Theme v3 is the official main theme for the game and is used for the opening cinematic, credits, etc. The v6 is not used. 2. The Main Theme v6 is the official main theme for the game and is used for the opening cinematic, credits, etc. The v3 is not used. 3. We use both. One could be used for the opening and the other for the credits, for example. Using the main menu music choice system I came up with, the player could choose which they prefer to play in the main menu. 4. I (or someone else) could try and combine both into a Main Theme v7, incorporating as much as possible from both themes. There were some sections of the v3 which I didn't add to the v6, mainly because I wasn't sure how well they would work or whether the entire theme would become a mess with different sections added in when they don't need to be, resulting in a possible overlod for the listener. If someone tries to combine both, this could happen.

I personally like HongChong7's for the main menu and Oliver's for the end game/credits. (Someone said similar to Minecraft's ending, v7 could play here.)

I admit that Oliver's theme, I like a lot more, mostly because it's calmer compared to Hongchong's. However, it is reminiscent of some songs I've heard in the past, so I may be biased to Oliver's version. But, I voted for both, because I thought that v6 would do well with the opening, and v3 with the credits.
What will make the credits roll? Is it like in Spore where they're an option?

Nick and I were thinking of having the credits roll when your species ascends, though were just going to have the main developers, not everyone whos posted one or two posts and then have a full set of credits elsewhere.

I like the current main themes we have, but could we rope more people in to post their suggestions before making a choice? Or maybe having this main theme as a huge collaboration project for the musicians here to showcase that everybody has put their hard work into making the 'main' theme, as it has to be the most important track surely! We could submit motifs, small passages and then explain how we can shape them further.

I was thinking something similar, but that might result in something impossible to follow with all the motifs and instruments layered on top of each other. However, there's no reason we can't try, right? ;)
Doggit's excellent at ambient music, I tend to use a layering technique whereby I start with a simple melody or chord sequence and gradually add more instruments, from what I've heard from LegoHoss I think he works this way as well, Inca's Soundcloud music is as far as I can tell a mix of everything, Captain McDerp specialises in drumbeats, I haven't really heard enough of what you can compose to make any sort of musical judgement, we'll be using Hongchong7's original melody, and there are plenty of other minor composers on the team who could help. All in all, quite a variety, I think you'll agree. With everything together we could make a Thrive Symphony (that is, if it works)! :D
I suggest we work with the current Main Theme v6 and add parts or sections. If enough people agree, I'll start a new thread on its organisation which will include information on its key, time signature, chord sequences, etc.

Sounds good to me and I'm sure everybody else would agree If we start with the 'foundation' we can work from there! With ambience, I find it's a good idea to start with the chord sequence as you said, and improvise with different parts, building it up and having the chance to 'hear' the sounds you would want to add... Another thing is, you could assign instruments to different people, work it that way- we group together to discuss timbre and maybe have the choice to add a small motif if it fits and have it reviewed etc. I.e. if there's a piano vst already in the mix, a poll could be made to have a small motif added and then get a bunch of people to do that motif and pick the one that fits best.

I was thinking more along the lines of taking what we've already got (the Main Theme v6) and adding sections between the current sections and/or extra instruments over them. I'm the only person with an editable version of the v6, and unless anyone else has CubaseAI6 (or any other program that works with .cpr files), it will probably have to stay that way. If everyone who wants to contribute gives me either an audio file or a staff/score/sheet music of whatever they want to add, I can easily fit it in with everything else.
I'll start the organisation thread later today.
