I was thinking something similar, but that might result in something impossible to follow with all the motifs and instruments layered on top of each other. However, there's no reason we can't try, right? ;)
Doggit's excellent at ambient music, I tend to use a layering technique whereby I start with a simple melody or chord sequence and gradually add more instruments, from what I've heard from LegoHoss I think he works this way as well, Inca's Soundcloud music is as far as I can tell a mix of everything, Captain McDerp specialises in drumbeats, I haven't really heard enough of what you can compose to make any sort of musical judgement, we'll be using Hongchong7's original melody, and there are plenty of other minor composers on the team who could help. All in all, quite a variety, I think you'll agree. With everything together we could make a Thrive Symphony (that is, if it works)! :D
I suggest we work with the current Main Theme v6 and add parts or sections. If enough people agree, I'll start a new thread on its organisation which will include information on its key, time signature, chord sequences, etc.

Sounds good to me and I'm sure everybody else would agree If we start with the 'foundation' we can work from there! With ambience, I find it's a good idea to start with the chord sequence as you said, and improvise with different parts, building it up and having the chance to 'hear' the sounds you would want to add... Another thing is, you could assign instruments to different people, work it that way- we group together to discuss timbre and maybe have the choice to add a small motif if it fits and have it reviewed etc. I.e. if there's a piano vst already in the mix, a poll could be made to have a small motif added and then get a bunch of people to do that motif and pick the one that fits best.

I was thinking more along the lines of taking what we've already got (the Main Theme v6) and adding sections between the current sections and/or extra instruments over them. I'm the only person with an editable version of the v6, and unless anyone else has CubaseAI6 (or any other program that works with .cpr files), it will probably have to stay that way. If everyone who wants to contribute gives me either an audio file or a staff/score/sheet music of whatever they want to add, I can easily fit it in with everything else.
I'll start the organisation thread later today.

That sounds nice, and a little bit spooky, I like it, great work as always Oliver :D .
I don't think you should use pictures of the spore cell editor for Thrive music videos.

Sounds good as usual, but yeah don't use spore images, especially when we have our own concept images. Use them instead.

I used an image from Spore because I'd already used the editor concept art we have for the previous editor themes, and I didn't want to use them more than once. It doesn't really matter anyway, as it's the theme that matters.

My newest theme, perhaps when constructing things? Or working the editors; or even managing a city? It's currently a work in progress. Using only four chords, it extended and evolves to convey that overall feeling of evolution and change; resolving from tensions and conveying tenacity.

I agree - it would probably work best for the Tech Editor. I see what you mean about the 'evolution' of chords, and something similar would definitely work at the beginning of the Main Theme, providing it's worked around the existing chords. I'll add it to the list. :D

Great! :)
By the way, if you haven't already seen it, there's currently a collaborative effort on this thread to improve the Main Theme and create a Main Theme v7. Not much progress has been made yet, but since you now have some time you may be able to help. All the information's on the thread.
EDIT: I've just created a quick theme for cave areas:

Hello everyone. I'm new here and I can compose. When I was playing spore I was always thinking of ideas that could make the game better. Now I can help to make this game real.
Since I'm new here and bit confused so can you tell me what kind of music I could make to help? I could make a medieval-like piece but as far as I've seen there's not a medieval stage in the game. I could also try to compose a catholic-like hymn for the religions, of even an anthem or march for the nations. I can also try making something more atmospheric for the space stage, or something more powerful for the battles.
What do you suggest? I would love to help this project.

Nice to meet you HectorKL! I'm glad you want to help.
Those are all great and useful songs to compose. There isn't a "medieval stage" per se, but your civilization will go through a medieval-like time period in regards to technology, culture and so on so that type of song would be great. Space Stage themes, both atmospheric and intense battle style would also be awesome!
I recommend talking to Doggit and Oliveriver for more on music composing as they are the music team co-leads.

Thank you WJacobC. Nice to meet you too. I already started composing a piece that could fit in the first communities (at the awakening stage I think). I may post it tomorrow or the day after to see if you guys like it.

As PortalFan1000 said, we can always use more composers. The majority of the music we'll be using for Thrive will be ambient, with the exception of the Main Theme and fast-paced action sequence music, such as wars in the later stages. Jacob pretty much summed up how the medieval period is going to work, so there's no reason why you can't compose music for it. We already have a few medieval-type themes, such as this one and this one. We also have some religious, militaristic and ambient space themes like those you suggested. The entire list is in the first post of this thread.
I look forward to whatever you compose, and if you have any questions about music, contact either myself or Doggit via private message or post something in this thread.

Have we done any fast paced action music for later stages yet?

Nice work, oliver, I think this is one of the strongest themes yet. With a little refinement (percussion is the only thing I don't love) it will make a wonderful addition.

very nice song ... maybe the only thing I take away are the beats of drums (do not know how you call well in English) present in 0:57-0-58. you can remove them all?
anyway I will soon publish my song .. I know I'm a bit slow but I'm really very busy since I'm moving house.
The links you sent are all related to religion except the one called "Tribal War" that does not involve a religious war, but about the war (in general) between tribes in the phase tribe.

I kinda like the drums on the theocracy theme, my only complaint was there was a lack of rhythm to them, they didn't seem to go with any sort of tempo, rather disruptive at times.
If I was going to suggest anything on that, change the tempo of the drums, make them a little more like a beat, so that it's not so disruptive.
It's your theme, so you make the final decision, all I can do is make suggestions.
