| If your species splits between two different species, how will it be determined which you control? | |

| I think it should just split... and you should be able to choose any species you want at any given time... regardless of who split.
That's just me. | |

| If splitting happens only 2-3 times for the entire creature stage, then asking is alright, but otherwise it will just constantly annoy players. Maybe the player should control the branch more similar to the creature he's commanding at the point of splitting? | |

| we should consider splitting to happen when the Dna code has changed over 1% or something like that... we are 98% similar to chimps so... | |

| The Definition of a Species is apparently when they are no longer able to reproduce. I think there was a topic on this and it was about the genetic drift of far away populations.
Personally I do not believe that the player should be notified or allowed to swap species at all, unless they go extinct or have another extreme circumstance. But then they would have to start a new game if they go extinct or start at an earlier point.

| then i think we should always keep on one branch that evolved and caused splits along the way this splits 'd become non playable species that'd evolve and die you could have a little info in a events bar but nothing anoying. just saying your species "blargh" splited or a species splited from...
if extict you would resume from closest species that splited

I don't believe so. I think that you should have to unlock the theory of evolution to see something like that. But a history of the species the player has controlled should be readily available.

It's a good idea to add this research, even if it only allows players to see their evolution tree. I also believe that the history players can see should be limited until the player gets the correct research.

You're not going to pick or else we might aswell give god mode So, then... what? Are we going to pick at random, after the species from which you split from goes extinct? Or pick the one that has the most likely chance of being sucessful and splitting into yet another branch after yours goes extinct, so as to keep the game going? What? WHAT?

The most similar branch should be picked (comparing DNA/Sharecodes/Whatever).

| Whichever line of lineage you play through, you will go through it. therefore, you will not be able to control splits, they will happen naturally. | |

I have to agree there. If I'm correct, the game will randomly create a new species based on yours. That's how I'd do it anyway, so essentially yours is "unharmed". If you edit in between stages, this shouldn't be an issue, and if you're simply having the game randomly/darwinianly modify your creature, you're still fine, as you probably already don't care what it ends up like anyway.

| I agree with this.
Species split when two separated population become unable to reproduce. The player should always change Organism by advancing to they're offspring/descendants or close relatives, this will automatically compensate for the species split unless their species becomes extinct.
