| what if your organisms were to split up and become different I thought that maybe you could choose one of the species as your own, or will you continue with the one most like the original? | |

This has been covered elsewhere, but I forget where. Or maybe it was discussed on one of the old forums...dang, I forgot which. I'm pretty sure Scio knows what the plan was.

| Species will be able to split. It will happen how it does in nature, by things like isolation. Different populations naturally diverge. Speciation | |

Speciation Yes, but what people want to know is can we choose which branch to follow?

| In organism mode, it would just go through the descendants of your creature. No problem with choosing there, it's whatever your creature's children's children's children evolve to become.
But in strategy mode... When they register as diverged species, the game could look at what subspecies you have selected, and lock out the other one. If you have neither/both selected, it waits until you only have one selected, then cuts you off from the other. Therefore, you would usually end up with the one you prefer, and you don't have to select one with a pop-up.

Although, it should notify you that a subspecies has broken off and have become another pack/tribe/nation. If this happened in a society with SCs, then it would have to become rebel population in order to break away, though.
