I mean trying to think of a good melody for ALL of thrive is quite hard... Im thinking something kinda spacey, ambient, inspiring yet catchy. Spores title music was pretty good Im thinking something like that but better.
Heres a rather melancholic tune... :]

I think I'd be better off turning tunes into full tracks...
It's not so sad or bad. I like it. It's not perfect, but it's definitely headed in the right direction, i feel. It's kind of a curious, intriguing melody.

I like it, but I'm not too sure about the synth pad playing the chords to accompany. Not the chords themselves, just the timbre of the synth.
I made a song centred on a melody I cam up with a few days ago. Sorry about the hiss, but my recording environment is... budget, to say the least.

WOW. Love the building drums. The guitar is pretty epic too. Maybe a little slow for theme music but I can definitely see it fitting in their somewhere. Again, really like the building crescendo. Top-notch.

I would like to see (hear) something like this. Or this. It's subtle, but iconic.

Forget about keys. They are arbitrary. I mean, personally I'd love it in Dorian, but that's just my opinion.

Yeah, fair call. If I get a chance today, I'll try and redo in a more spacey style. I don't see it fitting anywhere at the moment, but I wanted to put something behind the melody.
Also, Dorian and Mixolydian are my good friends.

It's middle European, but that is not much difference. I never thought it would be so clearly visible.

Agree about Vegemyte's song, it would fit some place where players have a lot of time and can relax, such as editors.
How do you mean "spacey stuff"? Is that the pseudo-futuristic style that appears in most sci-fi (that I hate so much )?

Maybe it's just me, but i don't usually pick up on cultural differences in music.
I guess it would be alright as editor music, yeah.
I mean spacey stuff like similar to Pezzalis' song.

Yeah so for a spacey theme I would suggest a combination of these instruments:
Vibes/Glockenspiel Chimes Strings Synth Ambient effects Key: Typically Major with a inspiring melody (Not exactly what I did, Minor can still work)
Tangerine Dream are perfect at this genre.

I forgot that if we want an ambient theme, we should probably look to Pink Floyd, who poineered ambient music.
I'll lay down some lines soon.

Quoting yourself immediately after posting? Any reason for this, or just a miss-click?

I do it often. my bad.
Here's some stuff I threw down. Yes, it does sound horrible, but that's because of my cheap mic. http://www.aviary.com/artists/sciocont/creations/birth_of_the_universe

That sounds pretty good scio! Perhaps a little minor but I would imagine with a full track of music backing it and some ambient effects it could sound quite intriguing...
At the moment I've been thinking about things for editor music... I've been a bit of a slave to Moby for a few days...
Thats a remix of a car commercial track. Perfect Digital age Vehicle editor music if you ask me :]
Perhaps we need a thread for editor music? I could probably lay down something tonight, would this kinda thing need a melody? I would think any kind of long ambient track would be best if it can be chucked on a loop or phased into different styles :]
~EDIT~
Well heres a concept track for the tech editor... Tech Editor.mp3
I think I should of made it a little less repetitive as it would be looped anyway and would be quite boring after a while... Its just a concept track though, fully loop-able too :]

No offense Pezzalis, but your TE track sounds a little bit disturbing.

I really like that Tech Editor music, Pezzalis! I think it would fit well, but it could be a bit longer with a few different sections as well.

I just think that it needs more balance. There's good stuff in there, but it comes at you all at once. If some bits were more like 00:54 - 1:04, just more stripped back with some subtle harmonies, maybe? I don't know.

Yeah that one was more or less a conceptual throw together of the style... I'll probably give it a few tweaks tonight to string it out and give it more depth :]

It only needs some tiny tweaks to make it subtler, an to fade in and out smoother. Do that, and I'd say it's ready for packing already!

Thanks X)
I'll see if I can whip up some more tonight as well as polishing that one up :]
Will editor music change for the time period? I mean making a weapon in the medieval ages would have medieval styled music, while making a laser beam thousands of years later would have sort of techno music....
I guess that didn't really need to be asked right
