| sorry if this has been posted
I think we may be thinking too earth like
we are talking about beeks and sucker mouths what about thing mouths that suck in hydrogen or something
also you be able to evolve a plant or a creature that lives on a gas giant?

also you be able to evolve a plant or a creature that lives on a gas giant? You can be a plant. I'm sure on that. You evolve from a cell, every possibility is a possible possibility. You can be a creature that evolved on a gas giant if we generally think that is plausible. You can have mouths that suck in hydrogen, but would they would be classed as gills, though, if they only take in certain gases?

| What about a silicon based life form? Perhaps a crystalline race? | |

Did some research. Silicon based life is possible, however, only as extremophiles, since they can't breathe or grow in temperatures lower than about 800 degrees Celsius.

We are not doing silicon based life, at least not initially, partially for the reasons stated by Keen. We also don't know how they would look or what theur needs would be, so it's best not to just pull stuff from our Belgiums.

*Rewrites the science* Says who? Says Darkgamma, who, by rewriting the science, disrupted spacetime continuum and got dislocalized into the past. There, he had to construct an Ascension gate to return back in future, before realizing it was all a dream. On topic: There are also some lesser problems with silicon life, such as creating weaker molecule bounds and such. Also, Poisson is right, we have no way of knowing what would such different aliens be like and how would they develop. We HAVE to think Earth like.

| We have to go a little off earth-like though, as otherwise the entire galaxy will look like our animals. | |

| Not necessarily. Random mutations can have organisms that are completely different fill the same sort of gap in the ecosystem. There was either a post on Thrive forums somewhere or something on a documentary about some caterpillar of some sort on an island filling in a gap in the ecosystem which something common that wasn't on the island would usually fill. Therefore, we could still go quite earth-like and have completely different organisms inhabiting the planets. -Waap.

| We could always patch if we find a way to make silicon based life or something right?

Exactly. There will be plenty of speculative mods. We just want a good solid, known-science-based game for starters.
