| The posts sometimes have good points, but there are too many to keep up with, and my poor latest topics section can no longer be relied on for ongoing discussion. Double posting isn't against the rules? Then how do we enforce it? - Quote :

| He seems incredibly confrontational, and the double posting is particularly jarring to my OCD self. However, he is contributing to some discussions. | |

Most of his posts are really short, and a lot are pointless. In theory, he's spamming a lot.

| I have to agree with Brennus, and even if it's not spam, his aggression is definitely not something that should be allowed on a cooperative game development forum. |

QFT I find it suspicious how he posts so much, and sometimes really short comments. Also, I dont understand why he doesnt just put multiple quotes in the same post, instead of doing multiple posts. I have repeatedly seen him post simply to blatantly disagree or disprove someone's point/opinion.

| Don't know if this idea has already been brought up, but is there a chance we could play as constantly evolving parasites? perhaps like the tyranids from warhammer 40k or zerg from starcraft? | |

| I think we ought to have slightly different evolution for anything that falls under the category of virus or parasite, because I don't think they would evolve at the same rate as other organisms. I don't think we've actually had a lot of discussion about viruses or parasites. You might want to search for any topics discussing that and if there aren't any, perhaps start one. |

| I have two questions today.
1. Is is normally this empty on the forums, or is it just because it is summer break for our northern hemisphere friends? I rarely see any of the guys who were really into this project just one or two years ago. So many topics would be discussed every day in 2010, by so many people with so many conclusions being drawn. It seems like nowadays the only people left over from that time are Sciocont and The Uteen are left. Here is a list of some people who haven't logged on for a year now, and who have over 200 posts and joined in 2010:
Dragoneye4 Eumesmo Poisson Invader Zim
What happened?
Note: I would also like to point out that, until the strange anomaly today (which I will address next), the most number of people online was in 2010. Coincidence? I think not. Personally, when I look at this decreasing activity, it gives me inspiration to work harder to create this awesome game. The "moving on" phase seems to have become permanent for some people, and it is partially because of this gradual disinterest that I think we need to complete the Microbe Stage ASAP, to revitalize these forums with fresh life and talent. (Not saying there isn't any already)
2. Why in the name of Belgium were there 43 people online today? Where did they all come from? There was so many people, then over the course of two hours their numbers trickled away again. Did someone post a video on Youtube today or something that attracted a lot of attention? Why had nothing close to this happened since 2010?

| I suspect the lack of visible progress is the main reason people have left in the last year... The leaving of older members is probably because Thrive had already been around for several years, and there was still a lack of programmers. Scio said he's still around because he finds it fun to lead, and I suppose I'm still around because I enjoy following the project.
As for visits in general, people in general probably are not as interested in this sort of game anymore. Spore was made a very long time ago now, and people have probably given up on a 'Spore 2' by now, and have moved on to other things.
I thought the holidays were the reason it was quiet, although the last few days have been what I'd call busy for Thrive.
Finally, the 43 people online. No idea. Sciocont once made a Devblog showing his Google Analytics results for the forums, and there were two of these unexplainable peaks of sudden activity were on the graph, too. Although, the activity does seem to align with the recent rise in active topics, if that explains anything at all.

| Participation on the forums tends to rise and fall, especially amongst the longer term members. For those of us working full time, actively participating here is quite a large commitment. During the past few weeks when I've been working on prototypes and concepts for the compound system, I've been putting in anything from 2-8 hours a day, which I know I can't keep up. Even just reading any recent posts, and especially replying (constructively) to them, can take a lot of work.
It's understandable then that we have quiet times. I do agree that it can be rather disheartening not to have your ideas discussed. If it makes you feel any better, the reason I've posted so little on your recent threads is that I largely agree with them, and don't have much do add. I'll be having another look over them later today to see if I can atleast keep the discussion going.
In the case of my thread, I suspect that my most recent post was simply too much to contemplate in one go. I actually have several more items ready to post there, but I'd rather not do so until what's been done so far gets some discussion. If I simply post everything myself, without any other input to the thread, I risk dictating how it will work. It's also a lot more difficult to develop anything like this without someone to discuss ideas with.

| 2-8 hours a day? Wow... You're commitment impresses me.
Btw, I haven't read over your posts very much as I have been focusing on creating a completed socio-economic model. However, I will definitely check it out to see if I can offer any feedback, and I'm sorry I didn't check it out sooner.
Nevertheless, the recent peak in activity still puzzles me... (especially the miracle of three coders in 24 hours!)

| I think I can give a logical explanation for the peak mystery.
There was a post on reddit about spore and how much EA belgiumed that up (am I doing it right?). Someone there posted a link to this project saying you guys are working on the game Spore should have been.
I guess a bunch of people were interested and came to take a look on the progress.

I guess a bunch of people were interested and came to take a look on the progress. Ahh, social networking strikes again! That worked amazingly well though, since all of my efforts to advertise (not spam) Thrive have resulted in me getting banned from several forums, only to attract one programmer who doesn't even show up anymore. I see I have a lot of things to learn... However, I wish that some of those old guys would come back and check this project out, see where we are now. I am pretty sure we have much more programmers now than then, and we are organizing our work into coordination threads and progress reports. If just some of them would come back to look, would think they would get back into Thrive again.

| It wasn't random ads. In the Civfanatics forums, I changed my signature to say "Thrive, the greatest game ever conceived" along with a link. On Codecall, a forum just for programmers, there was a subforum called request services, specifically for people who wanted programmers for their projects. I posted something about Thrive there too, using the descriptions we have in the Sporum and ModDB. On the Total War Forums, there was someone asking for an alternative to Spore, so I said Thrive, but it is still in development.
It pains me though to think so many of them have left. I understand why, but I was hoping to work alongside them when I joined... Anyway, we can carry on what they have started, that is the beauty of it.

| Intresting game concept. I was first a bit surprised to read something so complex and if it is even possible to create. But if its so, i would be happy to give it a try.
For the first time i saw it, i actually tought it will have yust some simple looking windows, but then i read, that we will have also have 3D cameras to see the creatures.
So here some questions from me:
How are the plans, how the quality of the grafic should become? I noticed that there are many things possible for procedural systems. Will we have more a Minecraft (i actually play the game) style grafic, or will it has a quality more like Spore (But don't think it would be so comic like), or even like Infinity?
There were already discussion about racial variations. How will this work in generally? Can we create also subtypes, with huger differences, like some who has only a horn, others who only have wings, some who has nothing from both and some who has both? And will we have the ability to make colorful species? Where the color of the fur as example will be picked randomly?
Is it also possible to build creatures with paranormal abilities? Not the ascendent ones, but a species, how have no hands, but can move objects and make more complex works with telekinetic?
Sorry if some of the questions have mentined already. I have read a bit tough the wiki and the forum already, but haven't found answers for it.

| In the OE (organism editor) we have a "caste" option, which lets you create many different types of the same creature for polymorphism and whatnot.
No psychics, sorry. | |
