Newer Website Design + Domain + And More?

I was told to make a thread about this. I thought that Thrive could use a newer looking website design which I can set it all up at my friends hosting company. I will have to work preety hard at the hosting company to get all these benefits but it can and will be done if you guys want it to be done.

First Week

1) AFRAID Subdomain
2) Web Hosting
3) Unlimited SQL Databases
4) Cloudflare Website DDOS crash protection and CloudFlare Website SPAM protection
5) Forum Choice from vBulletin to iPB.

Second Week

1) Thrive-TheGame.com ( Example )
2) cPanel Hosting ( Emails, Databases, and such. - admin@thrive-thegame.com )

Third Week
***************
1) Private Dedicated FTP ( To upload source files. )

Fourth Week
****************************
Private Dedicated Server ( For the system tech's to work their magic and setup the databases and such directly an dconfigure everything

How did I get all of this?
I used to be in a gaming community which had this annoying little kid. This kid could get you stuff though. He was like the black market. Then, when the community disbanded after my argument on the forum about the owner not being active enough, I started my own community and brought those guys with me. The kid later asked me if I wanted a job at a hosting company, I said sure. He got me one.
The company won't mind if I snag a few of their bandwith.

What are the choices of destination?

I would enjoy for everyone's feedback on this. I will create a poll, if you guys want this then vote yes.

I would be in favour of this as long as the new site is made for developers and programmers only. These forums would then remain for everyone else. This is mostly because I would not want to abandon this site altogether.

Understood, There are a few ways this can be done:

1) Usergroup Restriction
2) Password for Viewing Threads
3) Whitelist IP's * Not recommended
4) Password on Site View

He actually did not send me to do this, I am speaking on my own behalf, sorry if I am out of line but it was just a thought since the entire website looks like it can use an upgrade.

I am a web developer and I agree we could use a website dedicated to the game (although it would probably be confined to a simple announcement placeholder for the time being).

I own a web server in the US (server located in CA) myself so I could set everything up on the spot, no effort. If needed a backup can be made of these forums and transfer everything to a new forum setup (using the new domain, without ads, etc).
Basically I can set up every web service you can think of.

Let's just wait for sciocont to get back from his vacation and we'll let him decide on what to do.

While I appreciate the offers from Thryckz and Carnifex, I would like to warn against us creating any website which rellies on any one member for its hosting. As much as this forum has it's limitations, it is publicly hosted, and won't dissapear if ~sciocont does (which in itself is very unlikely), even though (to my knowledge) he is the only one with Admin access, and we'd be unable to back it up or move it without him.

I do agree that any decision on this needs to wait until scio returns.

Also, Nick was only offering his opinion, not making any decisions, and there is no reason to criticise him for doing so.

You are absolutely right. If anything, sciocont should be the hosting/domain owner.

This website will be setup with everything in the "expanded plan" on a 4.0 ghz server the company mainly uses for authorized backups, I won't need any specific role in this, just I will give scion or whoever a coupon code which will get him 100% off the purchase which then will block any payment option ( Free, ) and he just enters in the options of the server and voila.

So I take it scion is the main guy behind the technical stuff?

I was just asking to see if he was the man that had the biggest say in this, because sometimes the owner just has the same permissions as a regular member. That's why I was asking.

Hi, sorry for the long absence. I really appreciate the effort and thought going into this. Seeing this makes me very happy. I'm in favor of building a better website, but not necessarily in the way that is being suggested. I'd like to have a site primarily to back up these forums and serve as a community hub. That would divert fans who aren't serious developers to a domain apart from these forums, and we won't have to move what we have already built here somewhere else.

Also, hi to all the new folks! As a side note, both US of Alaska and I have access to ADMIN, but I haven't known him to use it much.

Scio, I would seggust getting a new forum, Maybe even a free one, We just need to search for a good free hosting...

We could link to these forums from the site, but I do suggest getting a forum hosted by yourselves eventually.. I read in the terms and conditions for this free hosting company, no SQL dumps will be provided. Is there a way to get the SQL backup file exported from the admin tools?

If not, I suggest making a new forum and gradually copy over the content to the new one (taking with the most important stuff).

Right now, we need to use free forums... I know they suck, But that what we got.

Right now, we need to use free forums... I know they suck, But that what we got.

Our host does back us up.

Well even if our budget is zero, we have an offer from the OP as well as myself.
This can all be done for free, AND sciocont can have full admin/financial rights to both options.

I'm just saying, when scio can get a dump of the SQL database we can simply import that in a new phpbb forum on a self-owned domain and there would be no drawbacks whatsoever.

Well, For All I know, The budget will stay zero...
I am not sure if we will get our own domain.
