PostSubject: Environmental challenges   Fri Jun 14, 2013 10:10 pm

I just found out about the project, and i was reading the wiki, and im really interested in it, and i have an idea, that may or may have not been already sugested,

i would like to have environmental challenges, what i mean by this, is having enviroments with extreme weather, or poor conditions, so not all planets are the same, and it would also add some interesting challenges when it comes to space age, what i mean by this is

What would a species look like, if it lived in a gas giant, or a planet that is only an ocean, or an atmosphere that is mostly sulphur,

In the gas giant example i would like to see the evolution of diferent species, that due to the lack of a surface, evolved in a way to live in the atmosphere itself, like floating baloons that are really ligth, and   move using diferent kinds of propelers, in the space stage they would need to have special suits and diferent types of spacecraft mechanis in order to support living, in a tribe stage, they could like in vegetations that evolved in the same way, as extremely ligth floating trees, forming societies with this same mechanic would be really interesting, and i know it would be really hard to implement,

The ocean planet has a similar structure, but its of course water creatures,

With the sulphur eviroment i would like to create the "challenges" like indrucing messages saying that, your organism needs to have filthers in orther to sort out the oxygen from the poisonous gas,
or having a planet with more gravity, making your creatures heavier to withstand it, giving them problems in other planets, and having them to develope technology around that limitation

in order to do this i believe we will need to create certain "rules for life"
like they need to have a certain amounth of resources, that could be stuff like lipids, oxygen, and such,

Please respond, im really interested in seeing this happening, and i would love to be a part of it, i apologize for my grammar but english is not my first language, and if anybody has questions about anything that i posted, i will be more than happy to answer! :D

We do manage resources like oxygen, sugars, fats, CO2 etc whic we refer to as compound management. In the past, we have discussed this sort of thing, and it's certainly possible to do, but won't be a main feature. We hope that in the future, players will create and share planets that are difficult to survive on, and challenge each other to create the best organism for them.

Remember our goals: simplicity, science, and playability. Keep them in mind always.

As scio said, the compound system is key in our creation of alien worlds. A major part of new and unique environments will be their compound distributions. A different world might have an atmosphere rich in methane but far less in quantities of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. The soil might have different compositions, the plants a different pigmentation from the brightness of the star. All of these differences will be present based off what we have conceptualized so far.

Look at how far we've come when people thought we'd get nowhere. Imagine how far we can go if we try to get somewhere.
