| Now, we're making this game on the assumption that FTL technology is possible. But I have a question: What exactly will we be able to send FTL? If we can make electromagnetic radiation travel paradoxically faster than light, than so much the better, but if we can only send physical things (Yes, I know about quatums, you know what I mean) than that would significantly changes things, wouldn't it? Physical mail ships would actually exist and be nessesity. | |

| I know that I'm behind on how, exactly, research will work. However, I think your question has an easy MacGuffin solution. Tachyons are theoretical particles that can move faster than light, and backwards and forwards in time. Presuming that they exist, they could be encoded with data (via an electrical charge or some such) and beamed through space-time to send messages. No ships necessary.
So, if we implement some kind of tachyon-based research item into the tree, that gets rid of the need to worry about your "mail ships". Also, something tells me that any Civ that figures out FTL travel will already have understood the nature of tachyons; Tachyon tech should probably be a prerequisite to FTL travel.

| Tachyons could be included in Advanced particle research or similar. | |

| Coolio! I wasn't sure about all this.
Alright: Tachyons. Sounds like a plan, under a couple of conditions. First off: ignore the backwards time travel thing. Time is an illussion (Lunchtime doubly so), it's just the way our brains cope with movement and change. Also: only a fairly late research should unlock their use. There is plenty evidence that it would be plenty hard to do, and in any case, slow communication after centuries of high-speed would create VERY interesting gameplay.

| I believe we're going to include a few different methods for travel, including teleportation, warping infinite improbability drives, etc. Quantum entanglement communication will be included so information can be sent anywhere instantaneously. | |
