Thats exactly what i was thinking! I think it would lose a lot of immersion if you were playing and suddenly you get an achievement that is referring to a movie, tv show, historical figure, etc. from earth. I think achievements like Creator, Tripod, and To The Stars are clear, to the point, and not saturated with pop culture references. However, its always great to have a few! Also, we shouldnt have too many achievements, because then they lose their value. EDIT: Sorry for the triple post.

| Pioneer: Map 50% of your home planet.
Explorer: Map 100% of your home planet.
Knowledge is Power: Research 100 techs. (Or any high number of them)
Extraterrestrial: Discover life on another planet.
Open Season: Kill an organism below the Awakening stage when in or above the Awakening stage.
(trying to avoid pop culture references)

I agree thats a better idea, but I was afraid that it would be hard to make the computer be able to identify a continent. Our own continents cannot actually be defined by any definition. (search up "CGPGrey what are continents" in youtube to see what i mean) Also, some more ideas for achievements. (again trying to hammer home the lack of pop culture references) Monument: Construct a structure at least 250m high. Wonder: Construct a structure at least 500m high. Linguist: Learn another race's language.

| Survivalist- Move your race to a new world after yours is destroyed (Only by enviromental/Industrial means)
Exile- Move your race to a new world after yours is destroyed in a war
Refugee- Be rescued by another race before you planet is destroyed (only in nation stage)
Vanguard- Save a race from extinction
Also, I was playing Fable today and I realized once you receive an achievement the description changes to something witty. Should we do this or no?

| Sounds like a good Idea to me.
Also, here's my ideas:
Houston, we have a problem. - Have a problem during spaceflight.
Were gonna need a bigger boat... - Have an aquatic animal destroy one of your aquatic vehicles.
1337 H4X0R - Hack into an enemies computer. (i.e. For an enemies factory.)

| Please don't talk about this stuff, right now... We have alot more importent stuff to do before Achievements...
Also, I would like to note that some of the achivements you preposed will be very hard to develope, so don't go too wild.

| Cool Idea raptor. How would the tech tree thing mix that in or how would it be invented in the first place? | |

| I don't think we'll be going into enough detail to even include different types of entertainment media, such as games, so I doubt we'll include different genres of games. Nice idea though; maybe the requirement could be to use a planet for evolutionary experimentation instead. | |

| Money is not measured by a meter, it is a specific amount. | |

i got this from a different game where you keep on collecting money until you reach a number like 9,999,999,999,999 or something like that in the game it's considered a achievement

| I don't think we should make money achievments considering the player will most likely create their own currency with different values in the tech editor, it won't be universal, so creating an achievment for gaining a certain amount of money may not be an option. Some races might not even have currency. |

You have a good point with different values of currency, but in program terms I would assume currency would just be a modifier on a global ‘wealth’ value, which (for the game) would represent the actual amount of money they have. In this case, we could set an amount of wealth for them to achieve, and then convert it into their currency. If that turns out not to be how it works, then it might not be so easy, but in that case surely the tech editor's material/resource costs would also be invalidated. I think having a realistically reachable limit to wealth would be a bit disappointing, at least for me, although if the achievement is below the limit, at a realistically reachable amount, then I don't see a problem in having one. As for races which have no currency, it is impossible to get all the achievements (listed here) anyway, in one game; civilisations without currency just wouldn't be able to get the achievement. At least to start with, it is unlikely civilisations without currency will exist at all, since many of our current concepts for civilisation and above are dependant on currency.

would it be an achievement to make a universal currency then (think star wars credits)

would it be an achievement to make a universal currency then (think star wars credits) That might be a bit difficult to implement, since areas of the galaxy are only updated when visited, which makes new civilisations like the opposite of Schrödinger's cat - they are neither existent or non-existent until observed, at which point they may spring into being. Although this saves your computer from having to simulate the entire galaxy at once, this unfortunately means it is impossible to know whether you have visited every presently existing civilisation or not. If you can't know that, you consequently can't know whether every civilisation uses your currency or not.

Perhaps, I'm not sure exactly how detailed currency's current concept is. If any of the civilisation team leads are around, they should be able to answer that.
