| Well, I'm not a leader of stuff around here or anything, I know everyone has a talent, and seeing as this game is about life, the universe and everything,( pun intended ) there's almost definitely something help with something. Good luck. Sciocont will probably be looking in here soon, so you won't have to wait. On that note, if anyone has a project they want to set me to work on, go ahead. I'm good at biology, making videos, writing and I would think of myself as creative. I'm horrible at art. Also, Doggit, I'll be getting of my chanter and onto some full-fledged bagpipes in probably a two weeks. ish. In case you needed anything like that. You know, maybe we should have an "out of work thread", for people looking for something to do. It would might get a lot of new joiners straight into the flow of things and helping, which would in turn mean more work done. | |

Hmmm. Not a bad idea. I suppose that'd help get rid of the old cycle where a new member arrives, finds out he can't help much, and leaves. Instead, we'd have a new member finding out he can't help much, so he goes onto the "out of work" thread to find something to help with.

I've been trying V 0.08 and V0.07, and I got the error on both. Strangely enough, on 0.05 I didnt get the error.

This gets quite involved, so I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone not mathematically inclined. PCM

| I have idea to, when we make game version 1.0.0 (full game), and if we get enough fans, make:
-Official website, from where you can download game (it would be good, beacuse it could be dangerous downloading game from other sites: it might be virus), patches, bonus downlods, buy merchadinses (if we make them), get info, tutorials, and etc.
-Official forum,, where fans (and deveplovers) can discuss about sections like game tips and hints, ideas for updates, forum games and etc.
-Thrives history (It would be on thrive official website) In that page, there will be entire history of thrive deveplovement, i think, it's very interesting: first evolutions, then we moved on thrive, then problems with auto evo,... it would be extremely interesting to fans!

| We already have a Revolutionary Games website which could be used for that, which seems to have been mostly forgotten. | |

Bonus downloads? That gives me an idea. This has probably been at least mentioned before now, but I doubt it's been seriously considered yet. Thrive was always planned to be released in sections, with microbe stage first, then multicellular, etc. However, we could break it down even further and create a sort of modular game. For example, say we are at the point at which we are ready to release the aware stage, but as a result of the popularty of the first stages, we have been inundated with new suggestions and ideas (much as we have been since the very beginning). Obviousy, all these ideas won't be implemented into the first game, but rather than delay it, we could release it and then create expansion packs (free, of course) containing some of the suggestions. How will these differ from updates? Updates will probably be things like improving the movement of a cell or changing the appearence of something, with changes to the game mechanics. Using modular game design, expansion packs will then be layered on top of this as an aditional option rather than a complete overhaul of the game system. Plus, if we allow modders to change the game or add new content, they could release their own expansion packs, while the official game will be unaltered (similar to how Civilization V mods work). One example of an expansion pack that could eventually be released would be the addition of underwater civilisations. Since everyone wants to keep Thrive as realistic as possible, and so far no realistic way of simulating underwater civilisations has been suggested, the original industrial stage will be released without this. However, if afterwards someone comes up with a way to add underwater civs (whether scientifically accurate or not), we can release it as an optional expansion. I don't mind if this idea is rejected, but I thought it would be a good way to handle any suggestions that don't change the core game mechanics, such as new parts for the organism editor (special glands that do things such as squirt ink, make something addictive or add bioluminescence, for instance). And it might finally solve the problem of underwater civilisations.

| So basically just mods and/or expansion packs. I would prefer if Thrive had a mod loader, later on in development, and any modder could put their own twist on the game without chaning the vanilla. Expansion packs Im not so sure about. | |

I agree with this. Expasion packs don't make a alot of sense. Maybe for the mod loader idea thrive comes with a few mods made by the devs to provide a way to have modders have an example of stuff.(something big like Aqua civs, a meduim thing covering a differnt topic like, Guns on creatures and something tiny like 10% more iron)

| There are underwater civs, just without metallurgy, and if they had it, it wouldn't be released as an expansion, it would be an update, like minecraft. | |

| The underwater civs that are possible would be better referred to as tribes or societies at most, since they would be hugely impaired technologically. What he's saying is that if modders/fans wanted a mod to allow underwater civs + metallurgy not based on scientific restrictions, then they could make their own mod and players could load it through the mod-loader, instead of it replacing the original game. | |

| Building a ModLoader should be more or less easy, as the entity framework makes everything really modular. Adding new things is really easy, but modifying things alredy implemented can be problematic. Especially if multiple mods want to make different changes to the same piece of code. However, it is not something we should center in right now. Edit: Oops, double post. Here is the second post: - Raptorstorm wrote:

Any ideas, or am I just trying to run the game wrong? Sorry for taking so long to answer. Make sure you decompressed everything from the dist folder at the releases, not only the .exe That files are important, and OgreMain.dll is one of them. I get the exact same problem if i try to run the game without any other files around.

| I'm not sure where are you stuck, so here is the complete list of steps: Make sure you are on Windows Download the latest release from this thread Unzip it somewhere (everything, not just the exe) Go into dist/bin Double click the .exe If no windows pop up saying that there was a problem, you are alredy in the game. Press wasd to move. Bump into other cells (it is the only thing you can do at the moment) | |

| Now that I've done at least 20 posts after the last topic I started, when is it appropriate to use the create topic feature? Do we just use this thread for questions or ideas, and only start a new thread when it's too big of a question or game idea? | |
