Thrive/Revolution Games IRC channel

I was reading through these forums before joining, and found that there was no dedicated IRC channel for Thrive or Revolution Games. Most of the projects that I have been involved in have had these, and they increase co-ordination tenfold. You can register IRC channels for free from gamesurge, and I have done this before. If it is approved, I will go ahead and do this.

If you are not familiar with IRCs, here is a tutorial I wrote explaining how to connect to them. The first part of the tutorial is connecting via a web client (mibbit), while the second part is connection via an independent client (ChatZilla).

What's an IRC channel? Excuse me for my noobishness.

My fault, I should have explained. IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is essentially a chatroom (channel) with a dedicted purpose. There are some nice articles out there on them.

...But we already have a chatroom, right on the front page. I know I sound pretty critical here but why have another?

Although I'm definitely no expert on such things, it might be something to do with a more dedicated system rather than the temptation that the forums above offer, though I have absolutely no idea.

We should definitely at some point organize a massive gathering on a chatroom.

I just took a look at the chatbox, and it is pretty limiting. Depending on what client you are using, you can transfer files via IRC, along with a bunch of other things. I wrote an article on how to connect to them on a different forum, but it may help to understand the tool a bit better. Here is that.

I strongly think we should get one, as the benefits are many.

If you have a better option for our chat client, go ahead and explore at least the possibility. I'll talk to Scio to see what ADMIN can do in regards to this. You might have to be given some brief control to set it up, reading your "introduction" to IRCs...

The only 'control' i will need is to shortly be an operator on the actual IRC channel. There is a way to set it up so certain people are auto promoted when they join, so I'll set that up so you guys (the mods) have power in the IRC. Like I said, it's at least worth a try, and if it doesn't work out we always have the chatbox.

For those who are familiar with IRC, feel free to connect. For those who are not, I wrote a tutorial on connecting for a different forum, and the link can be found a few posts back. I am working on the settings so the Mods here will automatically have power on the IRC also.

I think i just logged on... This is all very new to me...

The channel is probably empty right now. I'll set it up tomorrow so you have Operator status when you are in there.

We should organize times that some of us might be there. We'd have to organized it based on time zones though.

Hopefully this Chatroom will become a god-send (I think that's the expression).

Can everyone maybe post their usual available times here converted to GMT?

Here's my best times for weekdays:
Between
0500 hours
and
0900 hours
(GMT)

For Weekdays:
GMT, 2000 - 2200 = GMT+10, 6:00am to 8:00am
GMT, 0700 - 1200 = GMT+10, 5:00pm to 10:00pm

For Weekends:
GMT, 2000 - 1200 = GMT+10, 6:00am to 10:00pm

There isn't really a set time, but it'll be somewhere between... 3:00pm and 7:00pm.

I've set up a widget. Hopefully I can set up our portal so that we can use it.
