I've recently had a spark of inspiration on dealing with biomes. I realize now that the system I have created relies on too many "unknown" variables to determine a biome, and relies on a food chain system that is either preprogrammed or one that I hadn't yet thought of. Today, I've realized that really, biomes only differ in a few simple ways, which can be defined numerically as variables. Before this point, we've been describing biomes as we imagine them: they're biomes form earth. Our non-earth biomes have been few and not very useful in gameplay because of their rarity. [ Poll ] I've just finished putting all of the info about biomes that we have into the wiki, so go check it out. I'll keep this updated whenever the main Biome list on the forums is updated. Also, I'd like to propose a "precipitation" factor to the biomes template. Precipitation is really the deciding factor between forests, plains, and deserts, so I think it should be included. Other than that, keep thinking up biomes, we still need a ton, except for in the Open Ocean and Caves categories. |
[ Poll ] Recently we ran into a debate in the Complex Damage System thread. The debate was about how to implement complex damage, however it affects the whole game development, and only a few people voted in the thread. We have to choose whether to simplify more complex systems to have the game released faster (mostly affects evolution and Strategy mode), or to delay the game by fully developing all it's gameplay elements first. 1. - Hardcode simple systems into the game. |
Hello and Happy New Years Eve everyone! It's almost 2011!
Ben here with an update on the sound team stuff. I haven't heard much from RP, but I know he got his stuff in. I will assume that he is incredibly busy with setting up all of his equipment.
As for sound development goes, I have talked to Bashinernox about dynamic music, had a discussion on the forum about it, and worked on creating a menu loop hopefully long enough for the player to get through all of the options before the music loops itself.
