... Errm, I think you're talking taxonomy, as in insects or reptiles or mammals. Really, the only thing determining that stuff is who's descended from who, so your planet'll have some unique taxonomies.

What you're saying about hive insects and xenomorphs is eusociality. Did you know that naked mole rats do that, too? Yep. Pretty sure it'll be in Thrive. If it can happen with insects and mammals, who knows where it'll show up in your planet's taxonomies?

Im talking about, say, you are a technologically advanced species, why couldn't you BUILD an underwater city, or outpost at best?

While im on the subject, what about sky city's? an advanced species surely could build one.

Underwater cities/outposts will be possible. What isn't possible is advancing technologically underwater because metalworking is something that is impossible/extremely difficult to do underwater.

EDIT: And yeah flying cities would be pretty sweet

MSE: Would be cool. The diplomacy aspect intrigues me. Something I liked to do in Spore was negotiate with other nations, but I'm hoping Thrive will go more in depth with that.

Extremophiles: I made a post once about radiotrophs which are organisms that gain energy from radiation. It's like photosynthesis, but with killer electromagnetic waves! I imagine they'd have heavy pigmentation in their skin to be able to absorb more radiation.

I imagine you take some relatively docile creatures and put 'em in a pen. As auto-evo does it's work, you start seeing mutations among individuals of your captured species. You keep these creatures and allow them to reproduce, allowing the mutation to spread among the population while you kill off the others that aren't as useful before they breed. After a while of doing this... Tada! You've domesticated animals!

As for more hostile animals being domesticated (think wolves into dogs), I'm not sure.

Now what About sentients? can we enslave them to do our bidding?

I don't think there is going to be an opportunity until you enter space. There doesn't seem to be much support for the idea of multiple sapient species on the same planet among the devs from what I have seen on the forums.

Cool, but not - to my knowledge - possible. You could suggest it as a mod though.

And anyway with the slave races, I'm still providing them with food and a house. But is it my fault that they're all in the same one? And I'm helping them reach their potential.

Perhaps it could intertwine with the caste system, like, at the bottom are the slaves, top is your species.

Shape shifting sounds cool, but how would they implement it, in a scientific manner. They won't include things that completely break modern science, even they say that their plans for ascension are pushing it a bit. If you were to shape shift it would have to be to something of similar size to the creature you started with, and do you know of anything that can actually shape shift in real life? With those restrictions, do you think that a shape shifting creature would be both doable [i]and fun[i]?
