There have been discussions on this concept of a fun mode before, they have unfortunately been shot down. If they are to be implemented, it would be by a modder.

Well what we came up with: What if there was a regular organism like you or me. It sees another creature and decides "I'd like to be that" and then it undergoes a process where it begins producing a bunch of stem cells (at a cancerous rate) and these stem cells differentiate into the exact cells required to mimic an organism. It's pretty far-fetched but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere about stem-cell reversion where the cells become undifferentiated.

As much as I'd love to see it in the game, if this thing were ever a real process, it'd probably take weeks/months of in game time and you'd need to cocoon your organism probably. Also if you can shape shift into a copy of say, the top predator in the food chain, aren't you technically now that predator? What's the point of having a species that can become any other species? Wouldn't your species technically go extinct if they all became different forms?

I saw this awhile ago, and i thought it was cool.

kudos to the first guy.

so, what if you fly to far away from the galaxy, and suddenly everything would go green, and letters would pop up and say "Simulation over." and your game would crash, or restart.

And that was another flaw in my idea I forgot to address: How would they know which cells they'd need to differentiate into?

Maybe something to do with ingestion of the target organism?

I still don't they'd be able to tell by ingesting, or force their cells to differentiate into the ones the other organism had.

How about biological DNA splicing?

You probably will be able to lay eggs in other organisms.

I have no clue, actually. I just remember I did a lab in 9th grade where we introduced a bit of RNA for bioluminescence into a dish with bacteria and when we checked the dish a week later, they glowed in the dark. I imagined it would work similar to that but with DNA.

Going off topic, what about your species being a virus, whom can infect almost anything biological, plant matter, animal matter, anything that is alive.

Viruses aren't technically a living creature and aren't planned to be included in the game.

No, you won't be able to be a virus. You start as a eukaryotic cell so there's never really a chance to be one.
