*Stickied by ADMIN Well, it's official. HongChong7 and myself will be working together to try to come up with some music for Thrive. Below will be an updated list of music samples we'll be posting.
Misc Thrive Song Figured a fun song would be interesting somewhere outside of the normal bounds of the game (credits? Easter Egg?) The ending does not cut off at the moment, but I'll fade it out later. I do not intend on making any changes to this song. This is "for fun". http://soundcloud.com/rpthehotrod/thrive-credits
I know I disappeared off the face of the Earth for around 3 weeks. I have been hacking and slashing a new theme for Thrive. I have received mostly positive feedback from the community and Mod-DB on the theme, so with some minor changes and cuts, the melody, harmony, and instruments will stay the same. Until I get a full, "YES! THIS WILL BE OUR AWESOME THEME MUSIC!" Approach from all the Team Leaders, I will not create a score for final sampling that RP will engineer. RP has the top of the line production materials that I don't have, so to get the best quality of sound, it will be in RP's hands. I will ensure that the essence of the audio tracks are kept, and nothing will be taken out, i.e - Don't insult the composer :-D Not that I'm a vengeful spiteful angry bitter person.
I've created a 1:47 loop of the menu music as spoken of by Bashinerox. Here is a Mega Upload link to the tune.
THRIVE - MAIN MENU LOOP http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4XVER10D
Go ahead and comment. I understand it is EXTREMELY rough, as I'm not really super happy with it, but I'm hitting a wall with it and trying to find the perfect balance and blend of sounds for the theme. As tiresome as this process is, I really am learning a lot about writing music for games and I do appreciate all the support and help of those on this forum. Enjoy it!

Side Note: HG Here with some new music. Here is what I came up with this week. I know I'm 1 hour late when I said I would post what I had composed by the 12th, but it's here!
MAIN THEME Youtube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzORDb5U5Bc
The main menu picture is one I created. I compose with an image in mind. The theme's image was the planet and sun image on the background of the forum. It's also what I imagined to be the main menu music, and or cinematic trailer music if we decide to create one. The theme has been extended and has a faster variation to it.
AMBIENT (Space) Megaupload link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BO0W2S7B
This track was created on a spur! As many people on the forum have requested, the tracks beside the main theme will have a more ambient approach. This is a short space - exploration theme I whipped up in about an hour. Short and sweet yes, but it does have a small hint at some of the theme composed above.
The idea behind this theme was exploring space. Looking for something that we aren't even sure exists. Imagine hearing the roar of rocket engines in the background, the low hum, and throw this composition on top. We've got ourselves a space ambiance feel.
NOTE: Testing bass when mixed in with a lot of extra instruments. Please let me know if you are able to pick up on the individual bass notes in the background.
Sample03 RpTheHotrod Link1: http://soundcloud.com/rpthehotrod/explore01c NOTE: This isn't anything serious. I'm awaiting my new equipment, so I threw together a very simple and basic "explore" tune. It's not touched up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would you guys prefer traditional ambient music, or more modern ambient music? What I mean by ambient is music that you don't really even notice is playing...much like exploring, or you're in town, etc... nothing really noticeable is happening. A simple design with few instruments are intended.
This clip is not intended as a show of quality to come or anything official whatsoever. I made this just to show you what I mean by traditional.
http://soundcloud.com/rpthehotrod/explore01c
or would you prefer more modern ambience like Spore does...really not even a song...just pretty notes behind the scenes woo-ing back and forth?

I think a more spore-like ambience, but with a better feel to it. Here's my favorite ambient track of all time.

Hey All!
I must be honest with everyone here in my thoughts and feelings for this project. I think it's great that we're all giving honest feedback and discussing things, but I'm more of one to just go ahead and make something happen and put down an actual product rather than just figure out what to do. So here's what I want from the community and developers in order to help me create a product we can all listen to.
WHAT MUSIC IS MOST IMPORTANT NOW? -Main Theme/Main Menu Music -Combat Music -Stage music (Creature, Cellular, Society, Space, ect.) -SFX -Ambient Tracks
I'm curious to see what will happen with sound and all, but I need some direction from the community in order to prioritize what track needs to happen first.
If someone lets me know what need first need, then I can go ahead and do exactly what needs to be done to get moving.
I want to make this project awesome, and I understand you all do as well. Let's get crackin'!
Tell me - -EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT. Don't be vague. Give me WHAT YOU WANT, and I will take into account EVERYONE'S RESPONSE. No one gets left behind!

Hong, I'm going to look into some ambient and misc stuff for now. If you want to work on something, go ahead and handle a theme. I have a lot of work to do getting the new equipment set up when it shows up next week. I still don't think we should be rushing anything, though.

Like my brother said to me about the music that thrive should have, he thinks it should have the "Element of Creation".
I believe he means that the music must give the feel that you are creating something. If that is what he means, I agree.

Please review the choices I listed and prioritize what needs to be done first. It was already said in another thread about the element of creation. I'm asking the community and developers, what music should be written first.

Hum, I play the base guitar so I was wondering if that could be of any help. I sometimes play random tunes so if I find something nice then I could show you guys?

We need a theme first- it's what is going to push us forward. I liked the past few samples you've dealt out, and i think that descending like could easily be part of our main theme.

Throw me the notes, or upload a video/sound file and I should be able to transcribe it.

Would a guitar pro tab do?

I do not know how to read guitar tab. If you could find a way to translate it into notes, or give me a sound file, then I could figure it out.

Could you clarify on "descending like"?

A guitar tab is "easy" to translate a bass guitar that Albalrogue is talking about has 4 strings a tab would look something like this
GDAE are string names Like a staff the numbers are notes
Each numbers represent the amount of semitones from their strings
For example the first note is 2 semitones from E making it a F# And the next note is 4 semitones from D making it also an F# the last note is 2 from d making it an E And if you're musically adept you would understand that this riff is in the key of G
What probably will bother you the most is the assumed rhythm. Generally you have to guess and take cues from the spacing but its not mathematical or anything.
Hopefully this helps

That really helps. Thanks!
Albalrouge - if you could send me the tab, I'll do what I can to decipher it. As for rhythm, I understand each - is a 16th note? Not sure if that's right, but that's what it seems like. Go ahead and send me the tab, and a sound file if you can and I'll see what I can do.

Well for the rythm it's a problem with tabs. There isn't any indication on it. I use guitar pro to wright tabs since there are the tabs and the black dot things (solfège? I can't remeber). So I'll send you a tab when I come with something. Which is either thursday or friday because I can't get internet connection at school.

Well, apparently I actually got pushed out of the music lead role (was supposed to be a joint team operation, not really sure why the sudden change), so I wish everyone the best of luck. I'll continue working with the new equipment coming in. It's what is used in Hollywood productions, so it's really an exciting time! Keep track on soundcloud if you want.
Hong, gratz on the position and kick some butt.
