| i already posted some of my idea on a diferent forum https://thrivegame.canadaboard.net/t1203-environmental-challenges#24436altough it was quite brief, i would really like to make a civilisation in a gas giant, having to adjust a creature to the masive gravitational field, as well as the lack of soil, perhaps living floating in the clouds, i dont know if its posible, i read about the gathering of metals to make tools, and it makes a lot of sense, in this particular scenario they would be, if there is any floating in the molten core of the planet, but vegetation on the planet would need to evolve on the same mater, beeing extremely ligth to withstand the gravity and to float on the gases, and tools made of it, wouldnt be very tough, please let me know what you think of this!:D | |

| It seems I can't stress this enough. Don't create new threads just to ask questions or to offer ideas until you have run them through this thread first. It even says so in this thread. | |

| Microbe stage is settled in water environment and if there is any water on a gas giant it would be only vapors. Besides even if microbial life somehow gets there it won't start evolving into hot air balloons it would just fall into the deeper layers of atmosphere where pressure is enormous and die. Organic matter is very fragile and there is a reason why we don't see life on Venus, Mars, Saturn in fact of all the 8 planets of the solar system only on Earth. | |

| If i am right, life on gas giants would be possible, but not by native species, as player would be able to create floating cityes, so players citizens would live on it. If im right. Which is prety cool, i would want to create giant city floating around on gas giant, with robots flying around. Gas giants are awesome. | |

| That does it, if I get to name the captain of the ship I'll be flying around, if there are gas giants nearby, I'm naming him Lando Calrissian. .3.
As well, the planet shall be dubbed "Bespin" and the city, "Nubes Orbs".

| There's something broken in the Insert/Modify Link because when I use it, it works in the editor ( I can see the text that represents the link.) but when I preview or send it to the topic, it just shows the url mixed in with a bunch of code! | |

It's been like that for some time for me to, and my tip is to write in the link "by hand": The text that the reader will see where "link"'s replaced with the link you want. EDIT: seems ~Scio got ahead of me. - ~sciocont wrote:

| Okay, this is something I've noticed, there's been little talk of digging, animals do such things (naked mole rat, various insects, etc.). The question would be if we want to have such underground lifestyles available to players, and if so, how to make them viable.
What I'm thinking is, we will have a very limited world in terms of visuals, unless say there is a bigger chamber built for some purpose or another. So maybe this could be a way for creatures with alternate dominant senses; such as smell, touch, or hearing, to make an interesting living. Ways to see better in the tunnels would be things such as night-vision or heat vision with eyes, or a strong sense of smell or hearing.
In addition, there would need to be adaptations to living as a burrowing animal.
-A way to dig into the ground, this could be special teeth/claws (look at a badger, those claws are like shovels)
-A way to deal with tunnel navigation (this could use the magnetic sense compass detailed in another post, or scent markings)
-Unique food sources (cultivating plants like lichen/fungus or other creatures that make your burrow their home)
A way to determine the condition of the soil around you would also be a good idea, and dealing with the underground roots of surface plants.
Well, that's all I got. Hope someone else can expand and/or correct.
EDIT: Sorry I didn't run this through first, forgot about such things, gonna go read up.

In case I wasn't clear enough on the last page of this thread, from which those quotes are from, or the multitude of pages before that, or the "Before You Post" thread (which is stickied and important to read before posting), do NOT create new threads for questions like this. First run it past the miscellaneous thread, in case it has already been covered. If it hasn't and the discussion builds, move it to a new thread. This is more the case for new users such as yourself, not to be judgmental here, who often create new threads on topics which they believe are novel, but which have already been covered. On the topic of your post itself, I would like to hear a coder's response, because I am unaware as to the extent of the destructibility of the environment.

Belgium, was really hoping to be able to, I would love to help in a project like this, but writing is my only strong point for this sort of thing.

| Well, you could come up with stories as to how things start up , for example, how did life get on this planet? What do people say when you attempt diplomacy with them? What beliefs do these randomly generated alien species have? You could help us with a-lot of things. | |

Bassicaly, both of us are right. So yep, he can do that. Heres a quenstion: Will communication in space stage when in organism mode be like in spore? If yes, i can write some stuff what they say, and maybe even put some easter eggs.

We'll need descriptions of all the editor parts and game functions, as well as written tutorials, so there's plenty to do on the writing front. On an unrelated (but in some ways related) note, are we ready to start planning the next podcast?
