| So there was i drawing a brain. While drawing this brain i thought of biology. That lead me to thoughts of evolution, which lead me to Spore. Then i remembered Thrive.
Well i didn't draw the brain for concept art, but i think you can use it:

| Have found and interesting blog with thousands of photos from microscopic beigns. I was going to post it in a new thread about concepts focusing on the micobe phase, but I don't have the privileges to do so
beyondthehumaneye.blogspot.com.es
I'm starting to do some concepts about the overall feel of the game, colours, light, effects, texture types... considering everything talked on this threads. I'm going to focus on something real yet plastical and pleasant to the eye.
Hope you like it when it's done

| here is a first glimpse of what i'm talking about, this is how I conceive the microbial stage backdrop for now. I'm currently working in the microbes roaming around this drop of water, so the desired final effect is not achieved (for now) Here goes the explanation: This backdrop is made of 5 effective layers: - 2 bottom layers with a color and two types of blurs wich can change depending the composition of the enviorment (different chemicals and so). This two layers are behind the player's layer and are not affected by his movement, they are only for cosmetic purposes - 1 layer partially on top of the player, wich contains dirt spots, representing the overall slyminess of the medium. This particles collide with the player, slowing it a bit, hence the slyminess concept This dirt can chancge in color and appearance, adapting to the medium's chemical composition. - 2 foreground layers on top with some more dirty spots and ocasional blurs. As the bottom layers these are only conceived as cosmetic layers, since they are not affected by microbes movement. on top of everything there's a little cosmetic shadow and a little variation of the sciocont's GUi design. these 5 layers can move independently, and are conceived this way to represent the "depht" of the medium. while the bottom layers are practically static, the 2 uppermost move relativelly faster, giving the microsize feel that we want to achieve. I've included a xcf file with all layers independently separated, so you guys can play with it ;), there's a hidden layer with a small color palette wich I'm going to use for the overall scheme of my drafts, these are not the only colors i will use, but the tones will be fairly similar. here's the link: www .mediafire.com/download.php?1ctvo4g8kik5vqi (delete the gap... new member cant post external links... ) I have the first microbe almost ready, but i want them to be included in one go, so you guys see the final effect i am visualizing. Hope you like it!! | |

| If I recall it correctly, I think heard someone a while ago talkin about concepts for cell parts. Originally i was going to post it alongside the backdrop, but I think we can start discussing the parts of the microbe with this one. This is how I envision a prokaryote cell, I have not included all the possible organelles inside the cell, but this could be used as a starting point. One thing that can be really interesting is talking about the difficulty of doing this the procedural way, making sprites or models for the organelles and enveloping it in a high poly or vectorial procedural contour (calling our beloved programmers to arms!!) The color scheme is the same used in the backdrop posted before. It's possible that some of you might be scared about the "childish" look of this colours, but I personally think that realism isn't ever confronted with bright colors, i think that using pale or brownish colors for this stage can tend to boring lifeless scenarios, but for creature stage can result in a more dramatic point of view in some cases. Anyway, I'm waiting for constructive criticism so we can start to picture all the ideas for once and for all | |

Go with Arch Linux. You learn a lot from installing from scratch. Are you 64-bit? Testing without cross-compiling would be great.
