That brings me to a question (because there's not many 3d models left to do for the microbe stage, hopefully soon they're all gonna be done); exactly what kinda parts do we need 3d models for in the creature editor? EDIT: my 201th post!

We haven't even finalized how a microbe is going to be rendered or what organelles there are. So there's still plenty of work to do, it's just not specified yet. Since I regularly see people around here claiming that this or that will soon be finished, especially for the microbe stage, I would like to take this opportunity to exercise a little expectation management. We are many months away from "finishing" the microbe stage, and I use "finish" very loosely here. We have an alright specification now, but that's only the first version and it's still missing some important stuff. No one has made a prototype that follows this specification yet, so we have no idea whether the current state is fun or even playable. There's a very, very basic engine implementation right now that's completely in flux, so we won't see a game in this engine for a while yet. Since we are all doing this in our limited free time, the progress will be extremely slow. I'd be happy if we had something remotely playable in maybe 4-6 months, but it might very well be a year or more, depending on personal life of the contributors, how often we have to revise the gameplay mechanics or how many unexpected obstacles we face until then. And then comes the tweaking and fine-tuning which will take at least the same amount. All in all, I wouldn't expect a polished game for at least a year, possibly way more. And that's only the microbe stage, which, in my eyes, is probably the easiest to implement. So don't get me started on the later stages.

| Looks nice. New GUI design. Much easier to implement and, I think, much prettier than my last. - Spoiler:

I've squared up all of the buttons, taken out the size ring, added a symmetry options button (bottom center) and rearranged a few things. Tell me what's good and what's wrong.

Awesome. .3. Also, I took a crack at making my own-thrive-based cursor set. Link If anything needs resizing, my bad. .3. I can't seem to get some things to change their size with the program I'm using. :/

| Could you post images of the cursors here? Also, I believe you're confused as to the meaning of "fractal" a fractal is a mathematical object that is continuously self-similar, meaning that its shape has the same complexity no matter how closely you view it. Perhaps you've confused it with "shatter" which is what we refer to our graphic design style as. | |

| 1- Sure 2- I'm not confused, that's just how I use it when talking about Sci-Fi stuff instead of saying 'fragment'. .3. 3- I'll get the pics up as soon, gotta upload them first. .3. - Aiosian_Doctor_Xenox wrote:

Notice the little silver arrows pointing down at the top? they allow you to minimize the window. You click that spot and the panel closes down into another fractal just containing your name, and maybe how old you are in this generation, and maybe what generation you are in, if you guys want that to be on the closed fractal. .3.
- Now lookee what I have here...:
This is going to be awesome when this game is playable... The 'loading in the background' cursor is in the above picture Otherwise, the other cursors are just variations of that arrow part of it, sometimes with other sprites next to it. Though, I'm having a bit of trouble getting some of the cursors to the right size... Anyone who might know how to get around that, your input is appreciated. .3.

| I think for a cursor it is better to go for something simple, like the conventional arrow, an isosceles triangle, or a hollow circle. Games I have played that had less eccentric cursors drew less attention to the HUD and more to the immersion. Not to criticize what you made, I just think that for Thrive simplicity and minimalism are key. Same with menus and the GUI. | |

| Well, it's pretty much just a black triangle. The logo means it's loading in the background. | |

| It's close but it still isn't. The logo as a loading indicator seems interesting, but it would have to do something like rotate or fill with and lose colour to show that loading is taking place, and I think it would be odd for the logo to do either of those. | |

| I have it rotating in the loading in background one, and flashing on and off for a full loading mouse. | |

| I'm with nick here. I'd like cursors to be simple and clean. Making complex shapes and then scaling them down to very small sizes rarely produces professional-grade results. | |

| Wow. A ship from KSP, a planet from SpaceEngine and GIMP. That's like my three favorite programs (in their respective categories). Good job M3rox.
I too agree that the simpler the cursor, the better.

They weren't scaled down, they're at the sizes I made them, of anything, I tried to scale them up so they weren't tiny... But, meh. .3. I guess I can make a clean-lined arrow with the same color scheme.

| Just a critter I made in Sculptris.
Le Critter
Don't have any pictures of it. Just a partly completed model in a Sculptris File. Haven't colored it either.
Also, I found a way to Convert Sculptris files to Blender. .3.

| Here's some busts I made in Sculptris which looked to me like something that the Tribal Stage in the game might produce. I only took the time to colour my favorite one Sculptris is a good medium to vent my evolutionary cravings until Thrive rises from the carnage that Spore left behind... Epic (: I made a quick DeviantArt account to post these since I was having trust issues with the image upload that the forum provides -___- http://shaftythecanadian.deviantart.com/gallery/44466065 | |
