| It's definitely not a stingray, and I love them, but they killed my childhood hero. Done - Spoiler:
I'll be creating a new color scheme to go with it.

| I like the shark-like creature in the background. Looks pretty good as a forum background, though it is kinda tough to tell what it is. | |

| Looks good but I think if the forum color scheme were to change with it it would be excellent (Orange and blackish grey doesn't really seem to fit)
Out of curiosity was the creature based on anything or was it a straight up airbrush? (Assuming it was? any way its so cool )

I'm not really sure what it is. That's what's good about it- it's completely alien. I painted the general shape and color, then used textures from a rhinoceros, emerald ash borer, and a zebra. Probably took about 2 hours to get it down.

| Since I can't post in the right topic, I'll put it here:
The background looks very awesome, but it's way too bright. I know you won't want to touch the background much Scio, but there's enough white everywhere to burn my eyes twice. Just toning it down a bit should be enough.

I had to lower it because if the colors weren't bright enough, you wouldn't be able to see the text.

Double edit, I would have thought orange would be a bit more readable against the top bit.And I'm not sure about the transparency. It makes it so the background is more visible, but the contrast between the background and text is inconsistent, which feels... Just, weird. Unprofessional. Different in a bad way. It's hard to put into words, I hope you understand what I mean. I'd like to see the colour you get when typing a post behind the text. The bar along the top now in green with Home, Portal etc. is close to unreadable against the background. And the tiny segment of the background that fits shows up in the smiley box. Now that I can put into just one word. Fail. Is that supposed to happen? To avoid making this a grumpy post I like the new background itself more than I expected. It makes a change. And seeing it with the added sperm-like-whale-upside-down-with-a-zebra-hat makes it seem a lot more fitting. Nice work. And I'm not sure if the RG logo is new or not but I noticed it, and it should be there, so that's good.

I have an idea: What If I can shift the perspective of the background a bit so that the waves are only at the very top and there's more open water space down below? that would seem to solve most of those problems. I like this background, but I don't want it to be an annoyance.

It looks like a glitch or something.

| So far, good, but the yellow sunlight things are somewhat killing of our orange bits. If we stopped posting yelow/orange quesitions, though, I wouldn't notice. Also, is there a way to make the font bolder? Sans serif with thin lines does not stick out very well, and that's part of the problem with the changes in background color.
Orange is really obvious against the bottom half though: let's try out some other colors
Purple/Violet Lavender brick red red Orange Says it's brown, but whoever named these colors is colorblind. It's more of adobe. I know it won't be visible in the top, just work with me here. Green Olive green aqua/turquoise. Cyan is a little more blue... blue Indigo white
Consensus: most besides white, yellow and orange should work. the aqua could get a little iffy, though I can read it fine, I have 20/20 vision.

| Looks great now. Although can anything be done about all those lines, like the one under 'New' and 'Reply'? | |

| I don't see any lines, Uteen, but unless Alaska wants to break out the admin power, requests for forum format changes are deferred until this weekend/next week. Scio's off at band camp. | |

| I do see the lines everywhere (they are the borders of the now transparent boxes), but I like them a lot. They add a bit of "futuristic" feel the the organical background. I love it. | |

| I probably overlook them when they move.
Is it just my widescreen, or has anyone else noticed that the background is tiling on the right side?

| I think somebody should make a list of all the concept art and stick it in the OP | |

| No tiling for me (though I have my widescreen set to 4:3). And I'm not sure anything can be done about that without making the picture even larger (and even harder for browsers to load). | |

| The BG is set up for 3:4, not 16:9. the old one was made big enough for either because there wasn't text background transparency.
